Non Meeting Notes
April 14, 2020

Hi Everyone.  Hope you are all doing okay and keeping busy.  Thank you to everyone who is sharing your stories and I hope to hear from everyone in the weeks to come.

Here’s our news for this week:

Rotary News

From President Tom:
All Club Meetings and Events are cancelled at least until after May 3rd.
President Tom and members of the Board are continuing to explore scheduling a Virtual Club Meeting possibly using Zoom.  More details on this to follow.

I received word from Rotary International that the Polio Plus program has currently redeployed their personnel to battle COVID-19.  The belief is that we may see a minor setback in our efforts to eradicate polio, but the virus is a more significant threat to the world population at this time.

If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Tom or one of the Board Members know.  We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.

Personal News

This is an opportunity for us to share whatever information we would like so we can keep up with what everyone is doing these days.

Heather – Sanjay and I were just wrapping up RYLA interviews to learn that the District cancelled RYLA Camp for June 2020.  High school junior students, school counselors, RYLA co-leads are very saddened to hear the news.  However, with the current news by Dr. Fauci, it is still challenging to predict about summer gatherings.  Thanks! Hugs, Heather

Bruce – Made our first distribution of $50 Safeway Gift Cards for Cops and Gobblers last Saturday.  Here’s a copy of the posting from the Police Department:

Tori – So how does a workaholic Stay In Place???  Well she drives to Santa Fe, New Mexico with her ex-husband, step-daughter, small dog and her pig, of course!

On our adventure, bear in mind we truly practiced Social Distancing, we drove to Santa Fe with a brief stop at the Grand Canyon, where we were stalked by a starving squirrel who obviously was used to being feed illegal snacks from tourists.  We saw less than a dozen people in the abandoned park, but that squirrel found and followed us VERY closely.

Highways are fairly abandoned other than a few cars and a lot of Trucks.
The pig (5 months old) and puppy slept the duration of the drive, with only an occasional small growl from my 4 pound pooch when the pig inadvertently invaded her personal space.  A word of warning, in case the temptation of doing a 15 hour drive with a young pig crosses your mind: Pigs fart on car drives.  Think on that one!

Once in Santa Fe, we Stayed in Place, did minor maintenance to the home enjoyed viewing a different set of walls for a few days.  Santa Fe is much like here: Take out only at restaurants, all stores and most businesses closed, near empty streets and no TP in the stores.  Only big difference is that people are being robbed in store parking lots for their toilet paper (if they are lucky enough to get a package), yes, seriously, grocery store checkers warn customers who get toilet paper to go immediately to their car and be wary of TP thieves.  I brought a diamond in case I got robbed, to negotiate for the thieves to [take that] and let me keep my TP, but I never got the opportunity of actually getting a single roll, let alone a [whole] package.

The drive back was uneventful other than at the California Boarder (and I am serious) the Border Guards asked if we brought our own toilet paper.  I told them no, and [that] if I did, I won’t tell them or anyone… HEY! Highway robbery is a real thing!

Paul – Hello Rotarians, Hope everyone is staying safe.

Jack and Haydee – Jack and his three girls have been spending beautiful afternoons on the swing, chit chatting and singing. Really enjoying quality time together. Still missing all our commitments but making the best of the situation. Hope you are well!!

Phil and Twana – Social Distancing Report – Smiles
-Half of us are going to come out of this quarantine as amazing cooks. The other half will come out with a drinking problem.
-I used to spin that toilet paper like I was on Wheel of Fortune. Now I turn it like I'm cracking a safe.
-I need to practice social-distancing from the refrigerator.
-Still haven't decided where to go for Easter ----- The Living Room or The Bedroom
-PSA: every few days try your jeans on just to make sure they fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom.
-Homeschooling is going well. 2 students suspended for fighting and 1 teacher fired for drinking on the job.
-I don't think anyone expected that when we changed the clocks we'd go from Standard Time to the Twilight Zone
-This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house, told my dog..... we laughed a lot.
-So, after this quarantine.....will the producers of My 600 Pound Life just find me or do I find them?
-Quarantine Day 5: Went to this restaurant called THE KITCHEN. You have to gather all the ingredients and make your own meal. I have no clue how this place is still in business.
-My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet.
-Day 5 of Homeschooling: One of these little monsters called in a bomb threat.
-I'm so excited --- it's time to take out the garbage. What should I wear?
-I hope the weather is good tomorrow for my trip to Puerto Backyarda. I'm getting tired of Los Livingroom.
-Classified Ad: Single man with toilet paper seeks woman with hand sanitizer for good clean fun.
-Day 6 of Homeschooling: My child just said "I hope I don't have the same teacher next year".... I'm offended.
-Better 6 feet apart than 6 feet under.
