Auction:  Two tickets to next Thursday’s Celebrity Form with Astronaut Scott Kelly were auctioned off at today’s meeting.  The tickets were very generously donated by Bert Raphael and the bid was won by Bob Williams.  Next week we will be auctioning a one week stay in a Timeshare resort at Incline Village in Lake Tahoe.  We are also looking for more donations with the proceeds going to the Endowment Fund.  Please see President Jerylann if you have anything to donate.

Project Description: We are seeking to provide 400 Thanksgiving baskets of food to less fortunate families in Mountain View in 2017, as well as additional food staples that will last beyond the holiday.The date for Cops and Gobblers in 2017 is Sunday, November 19th.

Project Description: General Support for JustREAD and Just MATH Tutoring Programs in Mountain View for the 2017-2018 academic year. Funds will be used to deliver remedial literacy and math tutoring services to English Learners in Graham and Crittenden Middle Schools, and at Mountain View High School.

Organizational Mission: CHAC exists to provide alternatives to self-destructive behavior, and to help create healthy lives for the children and families of Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Sunnyvale and surrounding communities. CHAC programs are in four major areas: community, schools, clinic and assessment and training.

Project Description: CHAC graciously requests funding for the Just for Kids (JFK) Program. The JFK program is a "living skills" program for third grade students that teaches healthy ways of coping with family and environmental pressures. JFK teaches and encourages self-awareness, self-confidence and healthy coping skills. This program takes place on the school campus during lunch as "opt in" choice with parental permission.
 
  1. Organization Name:  Hope's Corner, Inc.

Project Description: Funds to support Hope's Corner's hot shower program, which complements their Saturday morning hot breakfast program.

Project Description: Fund to expand our school day and after-school educational programming to the approximately 3,800 elementary and middle school students in Mountain View (Mountain View Whisman School District). 
 
                                                                                                
 
At the start of the meeting, President Jerylann Mateo rang the bell and called the meeting to order with the Mountain View Rotary mantra, “We are a Fun, Enthusiastic and Inspiring Rotary Family…we are the best Rotary Club around!!!”  She reminded us that our International call to action for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity,” our District Governor’s call to action is “Attract the Young, Have Lots of Fun, Get More Done,” and our club’s call to action is “Make the World a Better Place.” 
 
Paul Reinhart led us in the Pledge of Allegiance
 
Bruce Barsi shared quotes about the value of philanthropy. 
 
General Club Announcements:
 
  • President Jerylann thanked Bruce for providing dessert today.
 
  • Jim Cunningham updated us about the status of our Community Projects.
 
  • Jim also welcomed back Dennis Kobza who has been under the weather for several meetings.
 
  • Anita Grossman talked about the upcoming Rotating Dinner on May 19th.  There are currently 25 people on the list and we are hoping for more signups.  The event kicks off at 5:30 pm at the Cunningham’s’ home for appetizers and cocktails.  Then we will be off to different homes for dinner (we still need 1 or 2 more volunteers for this).  And we will conclude the evening for dessert at Tom Myers’ home
 
  • Twana Karney continued to circulate the signup list for monthly Speaker Chairs for next year’s meetings.
 
  • Twana also circulated a signup sheet for President Jerylann’s Kickout on June 23rd at Michaels.
 
  • Finally, Twana congratulated CSA for receiving one of the $100,000 Inspire Grants recently awarded to Non Profit Agencies in Mountain View, and noted that Anita had done a great job writing the winning grant proposal.
 
Other Club Announcements:
 
  • The next Board Meeting is Thursday, May 18th, at 5 pm at CHAC.
 
District Announcements:
 
  • Several members of our Club attended the District Conference last weekend in Santa Cruz.  They reported that the Conference was a lot of fun with many interesting speakers.
 
 
President’s Club:  There are currently 27 members in the President’s Club.
 
 
Next Week our meeting is on Tuesday, March 16th.  Our Speaker will be Anthony Ross from Outlet, an organization supporting LGBT teens and young adults in the community.  Our 4-Fer for next week is Tori Atwell.
