Mountain View Rotary  September 13, 2016                                                   

President Jerylann greeted the club. Heather shared a thought about the outdoors. Phil lead us in an oldie “I’m looking over a Four Leaf Clover”, glad he had sing-a-long sheets.  Visiting Rotarians and visitors were greeted

General Club and District Announcements were shared:

  • Monique shared her appreciation as CHAC’s parking lot fundraiser was successful with earnings of $8700. 
  • Dave Cole reminded Community School of Music and Arts orientation is Wednesday at 5:30pm. 
  • Jerylann shared September birthdays and Rotary Anniversaries: Sheila 18 years, Bruce 16 years and Sanjay of 3 years - Congratulations Rotarians! 
  • Our next Social is September 27th at Jerylann’s home. 
  • Personal Sharing & Announcements: Paul shared he is happy to be home after an adventure to Africa of self-drive and camp. 
  • Next Board meeting is Thursday 9/15 at 5 pm at CHAC.
  • Avenues of Service will be held October 22 from 9 am – 3 pm at the Doubletree in San Jose. 
  • Interact’s Fall Leadership Conference is October 9th at Independence HS in SJ. More than 4000 Interactors are expected to attend. 

Dave was our auctioneer for the first Auction to fund the Endowment Fund. Jerylann was the top bidder for 2 tickets to the Celebrity Forum, October 13th to see George Takai, donated by Bert. 

Next month’s item is a Week at Club Tahoe in Incline Village, enjoy Thanksgiving there from 11/19-11/26.

SPEAKER INTRO: Judy introduced, Jeff Harding from the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District.  Jeff shared a few success stories and various projects that have happened the past year.  He continues to seek solutions to ensure all students have an equal education and fill gaps that the diverse student body has at MVLA.  The growing population is a concern that the school board will be addressing to ensure all students have a high school to attend along with more creative ways to assist teachers to afford housing in the area.  

Next Meeting is September 20th and Dan Rich, City Manager of Mountain View is speaking.  Our 4fer will be Jim Spangler.
