Non Meeting Notes
April 21, 2020

Hi Everyone.  Hope you are all doing okay and keeping busy.  Thank you to everyone who is sharing your stories and I hope to hear from everyone in the weeks to come.

Here’s our news for this week:

Rotary News

All of our meetings and other events continue to remain on hold.  The District has scheduled some virtual events related to the pandemic and economic issues it has caused.  For more information about these events, go to the District website at:  https://www.rotarydistrict5170.org

If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Tom or one of the Board Members know.  We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.

Personal News

This is an opportunity for us to share whatever information we would like so we can keep up with what everyone is doing these days.

Heather – Hoping everyone is well and enjoying the extra time at home.  Boys are wrapping up Spring Break so tomorrow we are back with distant learning, which the 2nd grader has more hours of work than the 7th grader has.  We picked up a new hobby as a family as Samuel missed his disc golf lesson for PE, so we bought some discs and now learning as a family.  A good sport with easy social distancing with others.  Plus boys are teaching me pickle ball on the beach!! Yup we are still on the Central Coast :-) Hugs, Heather

Ken – I was greeter Tuesday but no one showed up. My thought for the day was to wear your mask outside and stay close to home to protect yourself and others. Glad to see everyone was obeying "Shelter in Place.”

Our MV Rotary Scholars are very grateful for their awards. We continue to affect our community.

Susan and I are healthy and doing fine at home.

My office schedule has changed dramatically. The COVID-19 Shelter In Place guidelines for Mountain View Optometry and Contact Lens Clinic are on our website: www.MVO.com
The phones are staffed M-F from 9 AM to 4 PM to triage patients and answer their questions. And Doctors are on call 24/7 for emergencies as usual. In-office emergent and urgent care visits are by appointment with strict guidelines.  The opticians are scheduling appointments for contact lens and glasses deliveries M-F from 11-2.

One more thought for the day:  Do not call the police on suspicious people in your neighborhood! Those are your neighbors without makeup and hair extensions!

Take care to everyone and Rotarily yours, Ken

Ernie – I am doing as expected and The Terraces at Los Altos is Virus Free as of this Date!!  We had a Blood Test last Thursday in the Parking Lot of the Palo Alto VA Hospital.  All done from the Passenger Seat of the car. Questions of the results should be in next week.

The food here continues to be very good.  Lunch & Dinner is served to my room by staff as the premises here is in complete lock down.  I manage to see Eric sometimes at the Front (Main) Door of the complex when he brings me healthy snacks and other necessities. I do appreciate a phone call at anytime.  Cell Phone (FaceTime)  (760) 281-1139 (5pm to 8pm).

I do miss all of you.  Back to normal soon.

Sincerely, Ernie Hawks

Bruce – Had a chance to talk to some folks during the last week and it was great to hear from Hiro, Dennis, Phil, Ernie, Bob, and a few others.  Everyone seems to be doing pretty good and making the best of our stay at home time.  And a shout out to Bob who has been putting in 10,000 steps a day up at the Forum.  I know many of us are getting out for walks, but 10,000 steps is amazing!

I mentioned in my last message that I am going to try and set up a virtual mingle for our club.  I hope everyone will participate in this and I think you will really enjoy talking to other club members.  I will be putting more out on this in the next day or two.
