President’s Greeting:   Welcome to the Rotary Club of Mountain View.  Judy shared she is President for 4 or 5 meetings more!

Greeter and Thought for the Day:    Chuck shared words of wisdom published by a 90 year old woman!

Birthday greetings: In the rush of early May we failed to give proper recognition to a very special BIRTHDAY on MAY 9,  Hiro’s 90th Birthday – so let’s all join in singing a Belated Happy Birthday to him.

Introduction of Visiting Rotarians and Visitors:  many guests were present as grant recipients and introduced during the program, see below.

Finemaster -  three members joined the President's Club: Bill shared his recent travels to Europe; Bert in celebration of his 51st wedding anniversary;  and Ken to announce Cal's golf team's success!     

 

Announcements:                                        

Squaw Creek at Tahoe – 16 club members went up to  North Tahoe last Friday and enjoyed their stay at the Squaw Creek Resort, hiking, local sights and most delicious and entertaining BBQ evening at Bruce's home.

Golf and Barbecue and Poker with other community service groups is  next week Friday, June 7.  Walt is organizing for our club.

Kick-Out – Sunday June 30th at 5:30 to 9:00 pm.  Judy shared she wants each and every one there as you are the reason this year has been a success.   See Anita with questions or if you wish to assist.

The June District Cabinet and End of Year Celebration and Thank You’s will be Wed., June 5 at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose.  If interested, let Judy or Bruce know.

District Governor Joe Hamilton’s Kick Out – Roast and Toast will be Thurs., July 18 at Saratoga Springs.  This is  a fun event,  especially if a group of us go.

Jim  shared he will expand and actively maintain the club's Facebook page. He encourages everyone to 'like' the page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rotary-Club-of-Mountain-View/150123885066897 .  Feel free to share suggestions.

Jim shared that Dennis had a successful surgery and is at home recovering.

Alan passed around a sign-up sheet for next year speaker schedule. More members are needed to assist.


Dave seeks two members to join the Foundation board for a two year term.

Tornado Damage Relief - Our district 5170  is in contact with Oklahoma City Rotary regarding the collection and sending of funds in District 5170 to assist those in the path of the recent tornado.  These funds would be intended for long-term recovery and not immediate response relief. Just how Oklahoma City plans to utilize funds they collect for the victims will be announced as soon as our District Governor  knows. In the meantime, they are collecting funds from individuals and clubs. If someone has a suggestion for a small fund-raiser or passing the hat or whatever, please let Judy know.

Program :Jim Spangler presented community grants from our Club to non-profit organizations and programs in the community.   The recipients are: 

·       Just Read: Alison Kibrick shared the program serves 112 students currently for one on one tutoring to MV middle and high school students.

·       Friends of Deer Hollow Farm: Carla Dorow was proud to share that the first grant received by the farm was from MV rotary in 1994. The grant will fund low income schools field trips.

·       Friends of Steven's Creek Trail: Greg Unangst shared it is the 20th anniversary of the trail. The grant will fund education and race advertising for the upcoming fundraising walk/run. A key focus of the organization is to connect the trail at the 4 city border.

·       HOPE Services MV: 2100 individuals are served annually. The grant will fund the center updating emergency supplies. A reminder to bring your ewaste and clothing to be recycled by HOPE.

·       Peninsula Bridge: Maureen Garrett shared since 1989 this organization funds summer school for MV middle students with a goal the students will graduate on-time and qualify for top universities. 

·       Living Classrooms: Candice Stark shared they provide K-5 classes science curriculum and support to grow gardens.  The grant will fund MV Whisman second grade classroom garden for the upcoming school year. 

·       CHAC:  Carrie Carson shared details of Mental Health Prevention Plus program, primarily the funds will support two counselors on school campus and Teen Talk support group. 

·       CSA: Liz shared the organizations success of their Senior services department. The grant will fund nurse assistants to ensure seniors transition from hospital to home is a success.  

·       MV Police Officer Association: Bruce Barsi shared in 1997, the first year, Cops & Gobblers provided 10 baskets to MV students.   This year the goal is 350+ baskets.  Mark your calendar for November 24 to fill and deliver baskets!

·       RYLA: Hal Taylor shared nine students from MV schools will attend the 5 day camp this year!

Next Week, June 4  the program will be Annie Zacanti – Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center.  Also on June 18 our speaker will be Tomi Ryba, the Chief Executive of El Camino Hospital.  Please put it on your calendar and plan to bring a guest as we are fortunate that Tomi  will join us.

Our “three-fer” for next meeting,  June 4, will be Ernie.

And Remember Judy's Dream for our club this year:  Each member will attend every meeting possible,  arriving before 12:15 each week,  taking on at least one club responsibility during the year, and bringing in at least one new member this year!!
