Club Announcements:

Joint board meeting is scheduled for May 11th at 5pm at the YMCA.

 

Raffle tickets are for sale to support Interactors’ expenses for going to the International Convention in New Orleans.

 

Good wishes for safe trips to the RI Convention next week were extended to President Elect Anita.

 

A vote was taken and Hal Taylor was elected to be chairman of the New Generations Committee (formerly Youth).

 

The Rotarian magazine is going digital and will debut in July. If you would like to continue receiving the printed version there will be a $12 subscription fee. See details about that option on the rotary.org website

 

Monique Kane announced a fundraiser for CHASE (Community Hope and Sober Events). This is an Appraisal Fair on May 22 from 11.00 am - 4pm at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Tickets are $30.00 entry and up to 3 appraisal items.

 

Food of the Month for CSA is healthy snacks such as granola bars or cliff bars etc.  Also needed are underwear and socks.

 

Judy Hannemann, as Finemaster, called out Hiro who had celebrated his 88th birthday at the Giants ballgame. Jim Cunningham was fined for having his 50th Wedding Anniversary. Jim Cochran urged students to be involved in Rotary by aiming to be Rotary International Youth Exchange students. Jim Spangler confessed about his trip to New York to see his son on Broadway, performing for the first time in “The Book of Mormon”.

 

Chuck Osborn announced Scholarship Awards amount to $9,000 this year. He introduced Brian Guzman from Mountain View High School who received $2,000. He plans to attend Cal Poly Pomona.

 

Judy Hannemann called up other students to receive Scholarships:-

 

A’Jene Norton, from Alta Vista High School, received $1,000 award. She will be the first in her family to go to College. She hopes to be a Veterinary technician.

Mario Andrade from Mountain View Los Altos Adult Education received $1,000 award. Having got his G.E.D. he is in his first semester at Evergreen College. He hopes to be a Parole Officer.

Angelica Garcia enrolled in the Young Parents Program at MVLA Adult Ed. after transferring from M.V. High School. She received $1,000 and is inspired by her new daughter’s smiles to work for graduation from Foothill leading to a four year College.

 

Judy hopes some members will volunteer to be a mentor and keep in touch with students to check progress.  All of the students were congratulated on their achievements.
