Board meeting updates:  Interact President’s Retreat contribution went to both Saint Francis and The German School

      Saint Francis Interact Raffle is to buy a Shelter Box – they are looking for electronic raffle prizes.

Club ServiceJim Cunningham will be coordinating a Rotating Dinner for late April.

Community ServiceKim Castro is sending out Community Service Grant applications.

MembershipJohn Rinaldi is approved for Honorary membership.

      Dom Passinisi (see picture) of the local MinuteMan Press has applied for membership and has been approved by the board.  If any member objects to his membership, please contact a board member with your objections.

      Cheryl Moller has been approved for an additional 6 months leave of absence.

Manos Linguinis has resigned from our club.

Youth Service – The board voted and approved to send 6 students to RYLA camp again this year.  Hal and Jenny are in charge.

End Polio Campaign – Each Rotary club has a 3 year goal of $6000 to meet the Bill Gates Challenge.  To date the Mountain View club has contributed $6044.84.  With the additional speaker donations to Polio Plus we will exceed our goal.

 

The President’s Council meeting will be next Tuesday, February 22nd at 11:30 here at the Adobe House.

Rotary’s 106th Anniversary is Wednesday, February 23rd.  If you make an online donation of $100 or more to the Rotary Foundation you will receive double Paul Harris Recognition credit.

RI President Ray Klinginsmith will ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange in honor of the anniversary.

Paul Nyberg, Rotarian and publisher of the Los Altos Town Crier spoke to us.

The Town Crier serves Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View.  It began publication in 1947 as a one page, 8 x 10” paper printed on both sides.  It covers local news only

The Town Crier started several activities to make the area a better place.  That includes the annual Prayer Breakfast, the local Person of the Year, Millennium of 1999 celebration of 1500 people, and donates through the annual Holiday Fund to 15 local non-profit organizations including CHAC (Monique Kane)and CSA (Tom Myers).  This year the 15 groups shared $185,000.
