President’s Greeting by Sandi.

Pledge of Allegiance: Walt Joyce

Thought for the Day:  Hal Taylor pointed out ways to appreciate difficulties—whatever happens, things could always have been worse!

Song of the Day:  Phil Armi and daughter Jody led “America the Beautiful”

Introduction of Visitors:  We welcomed Jody Armi visiting from Virginia, and Rotarian Pat Devaney from the Palo Alto University club.

Club Announcements:

For those members registered to attend the District Assembly this Saturday April 9th at the Doubletree in San Jose,

doors open at 8am and the first sessions begin at 9am. If you are going to session B those will start at 10:30am with lunch following at noon.

Reminder that Live Scan fingerprinting will be available for those members who are interested in working with youth.

Fingerprinting by Live Scan is one of the requirements for Youth Protection Certification.

Rotary Response to the Disaster in Japan: Rotary has established a special fund to provide disaster relief in Japan.  Donations can be made through the district website.

One way to help is to support the ShelterBox organization, which has already provided 600 boxes, and has 5000 more ready to send as needed. Each box contains a tent that can house up to ten people, plus other assorted emergency supplies. See the CNN video clip on the district website regarding Shelter Box deliveries in Japan.

Kim Castro – Stevens Creek Trail Clean Up, Saturday April 16th. Only 5 members have signed up so far. If you have a couple hours free on Saturday morning please consider helping out.

Jim Cunningham – Rotating Dinner Friday April 15th  . Sign up soon—this is one of the club’s largest and most enjoyable social events: appetizers at the Cunninghams’, dinner at one of several other Rotarian homes, and then desert at the Joyce’s. Sign up soon!

District Celebration May 4-8 at the Santa Clara Marriott. We are trying to get as many members as possible to the dinner on Saturday, May 7. See the District website for more details, and a link to the online registration form.

Club Golf Tournament Friday June 10th with a BBQ to follow at 4:30pm. Tournament is $65 and dinner is $25. We have plenty of dinner reservations but very few golfers registered so far—who else wants to play?  See Walt Joyce or Phil Armi.

President Sandi pointed out that if you put the two words “the” and “IRS” together is spells Theirs!

Next board meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday April 13th at 5pm at the YMCA.

Next Chamber of Commerce mixer will be April 13th at 5pm at Interiors & Textiles Peninsula’s Design Center

1400 North Shoreline, Suite B-1. Since our Board members obviously won’t be going, how about some members going and representing Rotary?

Sunshine Report   Please hold the wives of Phil Armi and Jim Cochran in our prayers and thoughts as they are experiencing some difficulties.

Beth is an impressive young lady. A combination of a Fulbright Scholarship and the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship has enabled her to come to Stanford and NASA Ames to study Aeronautics and Astronautics. She told us about the floods that followed years of drought in portions of Australia. She is working on establishing the feasibility of using wind power on the surface of Venus. She has her sights set on becoming an astronaut.

Next weeks Speaker –  Rick Casey – Recent trip to Liberia and the Rotary AIDS  Project
