Introduction of Visitors: Anita Grossman introduced visiting Rotarians: Ernest Gem from Sun River Oregon& Bob Adams from Los Altos. Other visitors were Ms. Liz Nyberg & Ms. Carole Dorshkind from Partners for New Generations.

Club Announcements:

-RI President Ray Klinginsmith is coming to town on Sunday Jan. 2nd at the Saddle Rack in Fremont from 11:30am till 3pm.   This is an opportunity to hear the RI president’s Keynote Address. It is a fellowship event and you can even learn some line dancing. The cost is $35 per person and you need to register on the District 5270 website.

-Holiday Party Saturday December 4th at 6:30 Don Giovannis – Gift Exchange

-Alan – MVHS Interact Club has found a new advisor, hope to confirm this month.  Crab Feed Tickets are in will hand out later.

-Kristen Dorset has decided to resign from the club. The time and financial commitment are too much for her right now and she has not been able to put her full effort into the club. She hopes to rejoin in the future.

-LA Kiwanis club is having their 24th annual Tree Lot in the Lucky Parking Lot off Foothill Expressway in Los Altos. They will also have a Bunko event in Feb.

-Tom Myers – needs to come up with Board nominees for next year. Call or e-mail Tom if interested.

-Celebration of Leaders – January 14th.   We will honor Chuck Osborn from our club.

-Sandi has 10 tickets to Rooster T Feathers; she will pick a Thursday or Sunday and let us know.

 

Foundation – Gerry Felix: Micro Credit Program in Cusco Peru helping low income women with loans to help improve their lives. We have donated $7,130 to Rotary Foundation. 87% of members participating.

 

Fine Master – Judy Hannemann: Jim Cochran fined twice but never highlighted reasons…one was his 80Th birthday and other was the 2 week vacation he took…Judy fined herself $40 for this mistake!  Alan was on KQED, Walt $20 for game. Roger, Kim & Steve $20 each for the question of the day.

 

Speaker: Introduced by Judy Hannemann.  Bob Adams from Partners for New Generation; Showed video - 15 years of mentoring & tutoring. Two parts of program 1) Mentoring about 120 students per year at 3 local high schools (Mountain View, Los Altos, Alta Vista). 2) Tutoring in Mountain View & Los Altos Schools, K-12.  They are looking for mentors & tutors, about 1 hour per week commitment. Program helps keep kids in school.  Liz Nyberg reviewed tutoring program. Carol Dorshkind reviewed staff & training. Chuck Osborn has been mentoring for 5 years and spoke about his experience.  He also brought the student he currently mentors, Michael Li, who spoke about the gains he has had by being a mentee.
