Meeting Notes, October 8, 2019
 
President Tom welcomed us with our theme “Rotary connects the World” and “Our Club Connects our Community.”
 
The Thought for the day was Sheila’s call to think of all our present benefits.
 
Songmaster Phil is in hospital and we wish him well.
 
Members greeted each other and welcomed visiting Rotarian, Sandy Stabile, and two other guests, Tom and Vera.
 
Announcements:- Fred joined the President’s Club.
                               Next club Social will be Oct 29 hosted by Anita.
 
Community Service:-
Los Altos Sunset Partnership provides home repairs for the elderly.
 
Lists were circulated for helpers at CSMA, Stevens Creek Trail clean-up on Oct 29
           and Mountain View Public Safety Foundation event on Nov 2.
 
Rotary Foundation month is November and Monique hopes all members will pledge and give this year.
 
 
Dan Rich, Mountain View City Manager, was the speaker. He outlined the City’s four major programs:-
 
  1. Helping vulnerable populations, through Spanish Language classes, Leadership Academy and safe parking.
  2. Promoting housing especially for lower income residents, rental control      and new registration for short term rentals.
  3. Continued improvement of transportation systems to reduce fatalities, better parking and transit.
  4. Sustainability in environmental friendly ways.
 
The City Tree Lighting Ceremony will be December 9 and Dan Rich will retire as City Manager on December 18.
 
 
Next meeting is October 15 and Tom Myers will give his vocational talk.
