Heather introduced today’s speakers, both from the Los Altos Rotary Club.  Steve Geisheker is speaking about Monrovia and LEAD Africa School and Sherry Auerback is speaking about the Karat School Project.
LEAD Monrovia Football Academy was founded in 2015 to improve academic performance and ultimately, living conditions in Monrovia.  The Mountain View Rotary Club has partnered with the Los Altos Rotary Club on a Rotary International Global Grant to help LEAD schools grow.  LEAD Africa opened another school in Morocco in 2019 and the goal is to have five Academies by 2023.  LEAD has developed a successful learning model during COVID that has been used throughout Africa.
Evelyne Keomian is the founder of the Karat School Project.  It is based in Abidjan in Ivory Coast where there is extreme poverty.  The focus is on breaking the cycle of poverty through education.  The student age is between five and twelve years with priority being given to the enrollment of girls.  Students are provided with two meals and snacks each day.  A successful program of the project is the Woman’s Farming Program.  A draft for a Rotary International Global Grant to support the project is in process

Dave Cole
Sadly, we lost an outstanding member of our Club, a loyal friend and a genuinely wonderful person earlier today.  We will remember Dave by his constant smile, always with a word or two of encouragement, his bow when greeting us, and his jokes that made us laugh and sigh at the same time.  He was a true Rotarian, always putting service above self in so many ways.  Just looking briefly at his history with our Club, he joined in 1983 and served as President in 1993-1994.  He was our Endowment President from 2008 to 20014.  And I honestly can’t remember any year when Dave wasn’t either on the Board or heading up some committee.  For the last several years, he kept us very active with plenty of service opportunities as our Community Service Chair.  Dave’s enthusiasm, good nature, energy, compassion and friendship will be greatly missed.  We offer our sincere condolences and support to his wife Cindy and all of his family.  They will remain forever part of Mountain View Rotary.
Just looking back in our archives, here are a few memories to make you smile with perhaps a few tears in between.
