June 23, 2015 – Meeting Notes by Anita

Following a musical introduction of “Hail to the Chief,” President Alan welcomed all to the final meeting of the 2014-15 Rotary Club of Mountain View.  “Today is June 23, week number 52 of ‘Club Held Hostage’ where ‘We’re more than a Club; we’re a Family.’”

Rotaract Co-President Jordan Mott led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a rousing rendition of “God Bless America” led by Phil Armi. Anita Grossman shared some reflections by local author Anne Lamott.

Introductions: Twana introduced Jordan Mott and her neighbor Robert Mullenger.

Announcements: Alan commented on Monique’s lovely retirement party last Friday, congratulating Bruce on a job well done. Monique expressed appreciation for the many Mountain View Rotary club members who came out to celebrate this milestone event. Hal is out of the hospital and hoping to attend the kick-out.

Jordan Mott spoke briefly about the Silicon Valley Rotaract Club for young adults, ages 18-30, and invited all to attend the upcoming mixer on June 30th at Steins Beer Garden. Alan extended an invitation to the Rotaract Club to help out at the Crab Feed in January 2016.
Incoming President-elect Jerylann invited all to attend the Speakers Chair Meeting at Twana’s home on July 22nd.

Presentation:  Twana shared photos and anecdotes about her trip to the 106th Annual Convention of Rotary International in São Paulo, Brazil earlier this month, including a weeklong pre-convention tour with other Rotarians offered by Howard Tours.

The tour included the following: a morning tour up Corcovado Mountain by railroad to enjoy the magnificent view and the Christ the Redeemer statue, followed by an exploration of Rio and the world famous beaches of São Conrado, Leblon, Ipanema and Copacabana and several days exploring the Iguaçu Falls.

Twana commented that the Convention was exceptional and thanked the Club for allowing her to be part of this amazing experience. The Rotary International theme for 2015-16 is “Be a Gift to the World.”
President Alan thanked everyone for attending the meeting and capped off his last meeting with a final ringing of the bell.
