Good Afternoon & welcome to the Rotary Club of Mtn. View where: We are a Fun, Enthusiastic & Inspiring Rotary Family…we are the BEST Rotary Club around!!! 

My name is Jerylann Mateo, I’m your President for 2016-2017. I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July holiday.

Today is Tuesday July 12Week 2 of our new Rotary year

Our International theme for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity” (presented the new flag)

Our District Governors call to action is “Attract the Young, Have Lots of Fun, Get More Done! And our Clubs call to action is: “Make the World A Better Place!” Thank you all for joining us today.

Introduction of Visitors:  Scott Johnson introduced our visitors: Assistant DG Steve Ross & Burt Raphael’s wife Anne. Thomas is back for the summer.

 

Vocation Spotlight: Dick Lubman asked if anyone knew the meaning of Rotary…In the beginning meetings rotated to different businesses every week.

 

           

General Club Announcements:

 

  • Thanks to Tori for providing dessert today.

 

  • Tori – Socials. Our next evening social will be Tuesday, July 26th, at Tori’s house. She will provide more information next week.

 

  • Personal Sharing.

 

  • 19 of our members joined in July, we have some very long standing members & this month anniversaries range from 24-59 years of membership!

  • Jack Wong went to DisneyWorld with family.

  • Judy just returned from Africa with 7 women.

  • Hal’s son got married.

  • Board meeting, Thursday 7/21, 5 pm at CHAC

 

District Announcements:

  • There will be three district training seminars offered this summer, you can register online, so please let me know if you are interested in attending:

  1. Rotary Foundation Fund Development Training, Saturday, 8/6, 8:30 – noon, location TBA

  2. Rotary Foundation Grant Training, Saturday, 8/20, 8:30-noon in Hayward

  3. Rotary membership Training, Saturday 8/27, 9 am – 12:30, Embassy Suites in Milpitas.

President’s Club: We will not be doing fines again this year and I would like to encourage our membership to joining the Presidents Club…we would love for you to become part of our President’s Club!

SPEAKER INTRO: Scott announced our Speaker this week, Martha Kendall.

Martha told the story of Steven Foster. She played music that he wrote. He was a song writer, not a performer. He wrote about 200 songs. There are 265,000 videos on YouTube that include his songs. He lived to be only 37 years old, with only .38 cents in his pocket. ASLAP was started in his honor.

 

Martha also displayed her books.

 

 

Next Meeting: Tuesday, July 19th

 

We will have our New Year Kick Off Club Assembly next week and I hope you can all make it. You will get to hear from our new Board members and we look forward to reviewing our plans for the year. We will also be inducting our new member Sara Tierno.
