May 5th, 2015 - Meeting Notes by Scott
President Alan played “Hail To The Chief” music, rang the bell and welcomed all to the Rotary Club of Mountain View – “We’re More Than A Club …We’re a Family!” He continued: “Today is May 5th, week #45 of a ‘Club Held Hostage’!” He reminded us that Rotary International’s Call to Action is: “Rotary Lights Up Lives;” and, our Club’s Call to Action is “Fun Through Service.”
Dave led the Pledge of Allegiance. Phil led the group in singing a Cinco de Mayo song. Roger, the "4-fer" for the day, gave a thought and announced he would be donating $500 to the scholarship program. Roger was thanked for the generous donation and for bringing the chocolate chip cookies!
Introductions: Twana introduced Steve Ross visiting Rotarian from the Palo Alto University Club, who is also Assistant Governor Elect. Sanjay introduced his guests: Vasanth Namasivagam, Oh Tempmon, and Broadie Yazaki.
The following general announcements were made:
- Scott thanked the recent Rotating Dinner hosts and announced that the price per person for the dinner was $38.
- Sanjay explained some information at each table regarding some upcoming local events.
- Bruce reminded club members of the Kick Out scheduled for Friday, June 26th at Michaels Restaurant. A flyer was available at each table. Appetizers and a No Host Bar starts at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $55 per person.
- Heather updated the club on the health of Hal. He is doing better; is resting at home; and, Heather is scheduling visits by anyone who wants to see him.
- Date reminder: Golf Tournament & Party – June 12th.
PROGRAM: In the absence of Ken, Judy explained to the Club the scholarship program. Then, presentations were made to the students winning the scholarships: Jim introduced Alexandra Zaragoza from Mountain View High School; Walt introduced Rita Villanueva from Los Altos High School; Bruce introduced Cheryl Ratman from St. Francis High School; and, Judy introduced Amarilis Cruz-Ortega and Rogelio Marin from Alta Vista High School.
President Alan commended the scholarship recipients for their accomplishments. He then adjourned the meeting.
