President’s Greeting:  
 
Good afternoon!   I’d like to welcome you to the Rotary Club of Mountain View. My name is Bert Raphael, your President for 2018-2019. 
 
Our Rotary International theme for this year is “Be the Inspiration”.  Our Mountain View Rotary Club theme is “Have Fun Being the Inspiration.”  
 
Introduction of Visiting Rotarians & Guests:  Tom – we had no visitors or visiting Rotarians
 
Announcements:
  •  Tom - Monthly speaker chairs still needed for: Jan. and  March
  • Sign up for this month’s Halloween social at Tori’s house.  October 30 – costumes optional
  • Monique recognized members for contributing to the Rotary Foundation – Twana, Paul, Alan, Sheila, Judy, Jack and Bert
  • Dave  – described the current program for CSMA – need volunteers to usher
  • Bert  – Stevens Creek Trail project update – MV wants an original letter from IRS specifying our tax exempt status
  • Bert – District emphasis on membership. Rotaract dual memberships. Bring a friend to Rotary. Pick up a “What is Rotary” reminder card.
  • Tom – Holiday party – still working with Don Giovanni’s to get the big room for December 15.  Club was ok moving the party to a week night.
  • Bert/Tori – We are considering sponsoring a Rotaract club for 18 to 30 year olds.  
  • Bert – We are considering a trip to Costa Rica for Uniendo America Projects.

Dr. Ayinde Rudolph, Superintendent, Mountain View Whisman School District. 
 
  • The district now has a feeding program for youngsters in the summer and winter holidays.
  • Test scores are up.
  • The district is experiencing growth and there are plans to expand schools.  He also talked about the challenges and expense of acquiring new land (10 to 20 acres per school at $14,000,000 per acre).
  • A new school is set for near Slater to be called Vargas school.  K – 4 next year.
  • A Charter school is expected from Bullis School in Los Altos.
  • We now have an all day transitional classes for young kindergartners.
  • We now have a full day pre-school and it is expanding.
  • Housing continues to be a problem for the District Trustees.
