Mountain View Rotary Club

Meeting Notes for June 6, 2017 by Paul

Tom provided today’s thought on D-Day in WWII on June 6, 1944 about remembering those who served and what it means for all of us today.

Vocation: - Dick reminded club members that having a diverse membership in our club has advantages.  For example we could benefit from having bankers, lawyers and other professionals join us who we can then get to know and trust.

Guests: - Judy introduced Tom Moran.  Two individuals from Living Classroom, Noelani Hunt and Dan Blueklo were presented a grant from our club by Anita.

Club Announcements:

  • Presidents’ Club:  We will not be doing fines again this year and I would like to encourage our membership to join the Presidents Club.  27 have already signed up.
  • Jerylann – continued circulating the signup sheet for monthly Speaker Chairs for next year.
  • Kick out at Michaels on June 23 at 6 pm.
  • Annual golf event has been canceled.

District Announcements:
  • Jerylann – Polio Flash Campaign.  We ask that every member contribute $26.50 to the End Polio Now campaign.   Why $26.50?  That was the amount of the very first contribution to the Rotary Foundation in 1917.  A district video was also played.

SPEAKER:  Esperanza Phoenix – a talented balloonologist, did very interesting things with balloons.  She works with  BubbleMania …This organization provides educational, entertaining programs on the science and fun of soap bubbles for children of all ages ---that means Rotarians too!

Children are naturally interested in science and very curious about the world around them. The goal is to keep them interested for the rest of their lives with a memorable experience and strive to inform them that learning is fun. Rotarian Dave Cole is shown with the speaker.
