President Scott Johnson welcomed everyone to the second meeting of the 2017-8 Rotary Year for which the theme is Rotary: Making a Difference. For the District it’s Rotary: Building Lifelong Friendships, Making a Difference.  For Mountain View Club it is Having Fun making a Difference.
 
We started the meeting with a video from District Governor Orrin Mahoney.
 
We had a guests today – Doris who retired from the Chamber of Commerce and Mountain View resident Irene.
 
Announcements:      
  • Next Board Meeting is July 20, 5.15pm at Villa Siena, 2nd floor.
  • No fines this year. $150 to join the Presidents Club, of which $50 goes to our Endowment and $100 to the Club. Thanks for Tori and Alan for joining last week.  New members this week include: Bruce, Dave, and Twana.
  • We will do auctions again this year to raise funds for the Endowment.  If you have anything to auction, let Scott know.
 
News of absent members:  
  • Walt Joyce was present and he is recovering well from heart surgery and has a new pacemaker.
 
  • Monique, convalescing after surgery, hopes to be back to meetings in August.
  • Ernie plans to move to Mountain View soon and hopes to come to Rotary.
 
District Announcements:
  • Stressing Membership this year, President Scott urged attendance at the District Seminar on August 19 at Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton from 9 to noon.
  • Avenues of Service will be on October 5th   from 5 – 9 pm at the Santa Clara Biltmore.
  • Our District Governor. Orrin Mahoney will visit the Club in September.
 
Personal Sharing and Other Announcements:      
  • Evening Social at Cascal’s on July 25 at 5:30
  • Jim Spangler’s son Nick will be performing in SF in “American in Paris”. Twana will try to arrange a Club Outing to see a performance.

Speaker:
Our speaker today was Amy Andonian from Avenidas in Palo Alto as well as Rose Kleiner in Mountain View.  Amy is also a Rotarian from the Palo Alto club.  She discussed the senior programs that Avenidas offers: Lifetime Learning, Health & Wellness, Caregiver services, Handyman services, Door to Door transportation, and Generations Lab.  She also said they are doing a $20 million upgrade project to support the ~ 8,500 people to whom they provide services.
 
 
Next Meeting; August 1 with speaker Max Hauser.  Heather will be our 4 –fer.
