Mountain View Rotary
Meeting December 5, 2017 Notes by Sheila
 
President Scott Johnson welcomed everyone to Rotary, to make a difference, have fun and develop lifelong friendships, internationally, in our district and in our club.
 
After the pledge of allegiance, Sheila’s Thought was of Peace and War, a hundred years after her father was in the trenches at Arras on the western front, hoping such war will not happen again.
 
Phil Armi, our songmaster, started the season with “To wish you a Merry Christmas.”
 
Visiting Rotarians were our Assistant District Governor, Steve Ross, from Palo Alto University Club and Tim Dahl from Brentwood Club.
 
Guests were Kathleen Goodman, Hartomo Sutanto and Gloria Mungo.
 
Announcements:   President Scott announced the Presidents Club fund has reached $3300; he presented a certificate to Bert for his recent contribution.
 
Dick Lubman will be leaving the Club after our Holiday Party on December 16.
 
Twana reported an enjoyable social meeting at Anita’s home last week.
 
The President, from the discretionary fund, has sent $105 for the Rotary Float at the Rose Bowl Parade.
 
For Community Service: Dave, Bert and Anne, had helped at CSMA last week.
               Bell-ringing for the Salvation Army will be at Shoreline Safeway.
               Toiletries collected at Villa Siena were passed on to CSA for the homeless.
 
Birthday Wishes were sung for Monique and Judy.
 
Sign-up sheet was passed for the Ski Trip. March 8-12.
 
Auction: To raise funds, Tori offered her spacious Santa Fe vacation house for a week’s use by up to 12 people. Alan called for bids and found two buyers: for separate weeks,
Bob Williams and Kathleen Goodman will each give $3,000.
 
Speaker: Tom Myers, with Hart’s support and fine photography, described their exciting trip to Antarctica in February, visiting Georgia Island and areas where Shackleton adventured.
