Our speaker Maria Marroquin, Executive Director of the Day Worker Center was introduced by Tom M. Maria has been a driving force behind the success of the Day Worker Center of Mtn. View for nearly two decades. Today the center, which is a striving non-profit has its own building, staff and community wide support. Maria is known for her contagious passion and dedication for helping others. AS a result, the Center has large numbers of volunteers. She works tirelessly to organize and advocate, build community alliances, raise funds and work for reforms on the national, state and local level.
In 2003 she was named Woman of the Year by Assembly women Sally Lieber, then Immigrant Advocate of the Year by Siren in 2006 and the Mexico Award by the Mexican Consulate in 2006, the Athena Award in 2016. These are but a few of her many honors for her promotion of human kindness and support of human rights.

The works of the Day Worker Center are many. They do training in ‘labor rights’, ‘workers rights’ and train workers for varied jobs offered in our communities. They are in demand as there is a growing shortage of workers due often to the high price of rentals.  Workers are available to work in construction/carpentry, as handyman, painting, furniture assembling, gardening/landscaping, gutter cleaning, deck/ fence work, cement, tile and paver work, remodeling/demolition, moving, house cleaning, childcare/eldercare, food prep, cooking catering, holiday lights, party décor and event setup and more with asking!
