President Bruce rang the bell (loudly) at 12:30

Hal Taylor led us in the Pledge to the Flag.

Chuck (substituting for Judy who had an eye procedure and couldn’t drive) gave a thought from Richard Bach, author.

President Elect Alan called on introduction of visitors.  Hal introduced Sunyan who lives and works in Mountain View and is looking for a Rotary home.

Announcements:

*Thank you to those who joined the Presidents Club last week.  This year the Board voted that checks for the President’s Club should be made out to the Charities Account to be fully deductible.

*”Bruce Bucks” are back.  For every $50 contribution or hour worked on a community project, Bruce will give out a Bruce Buck and put it in a pot for drawing of a prize.  The final prize of the year will be a few days for you and 15 friends to spend time in his cabin at Lake Tahoe.

*President Bruce passed around a clipboard for sign-ups for “cookie angels” and for “Friends” who would like to receive the Bulletin and club announcements.

*Chuck passed around a clipboard to sign up for the San Jose Giants trip on Saturday August 10.  The game is at 5PM; arrive by 4 to partake in the BBQ dinner.  Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for youth.  The game is against Bakersfield, a Cincinnati Reds affiliated club whose manager is Ken Griffey Sr.

*Café Venti, our caterer, is opening a full bar.  To celebrate, Thursday, July 25 from 5 – 9PM they will serve free food and drinks.  Reservations are needed.  A sign-up will be available next week.

*Anita and Twana passed around a survey asking for which Community Service Projects we could participate in, any new ones we could think of and times we might be available to participate.

Funmaster;

After firing off a few “jokes”, Dave Cole asked for any confessions, birthdays or anniversaries.  Dennis joined the Presidents Club in appreciation for the cake served last week.  Bill Maston will be gone for a few weeks to Fiji (poor fellow) ostensibly to work on an international project with a local Rotary Club (8 members strong).  Jim Spangler was singled out as the proud father of Nick who had an article in a local newspaper.  Among other things, he took his winnings from the Amazing Race and bought a nice condo in NY (all 900 square feet).

Program

Scott Johnson introduced our speaker whom he met at the Palo University Rotary Club meeting.  Kerry Hargraves gave a very enlightening talk about “Have you played today?

Did you know:  - Kids laugh about 400 times a day?  Adults about 17?

-You are 4 times more likely to die in a hospital where the         nurses are unhappy?

-The opposite of play is depression?

-Play is contagious?

She asked us to think about what you played when you were 8 or 9.  Was it standing on the grass with no shoes?  Was it rolling down a grassy hill?  Was it blowing bubbles?  We have about 25,000 mornings, make the most of them.  (We all blew bubbles with the bubble blowers she gave us.)

Next week will be a club assembly, with our Board telling us what they have in mind for 2013 – 2014.

The three-fer will be Thomas Dittler.
