Our speaker today was Michelle Chappel, an International Creativity Consultant.

Michelle has been teaching and consulting in the business of self improvement.  She wants everyone to become a shining light.  She asked if we have done something that we did because someone else wanted us to, but we were not happy doing it.

She said that we may have talents that are not recognized and we need to bring it out.

President Sandi opened the meeting at 12:30 by recognizing Dave for the Pledge.  Chuck followed with the thought of the day.  Phil had us thinking, "Oh What A Beautiful Morning."

Gerry told us about the benefits of contributing to the Rotary Foundation.  She pointed out the local grants of money that have been made and how they benefit the community.  We now have 52% of the club pledged to make a contribution this year with a goal of 100% as we recognize "Every Rotarian, Every Year".  Contributions of any amount are important, with a goal of $200 per Rotarian during the year.

Judy pleaded for a member to take over her job on the Board of the Parents of a New Generation. This group mentors and tutors students that need an adult in their lives.

Kim collected food brought in by members and took it to CSA for them to give away to the needy.

Judy the Finemaster asked that all members that did not attend the San Jose Giants game last Saturday to stand and tell why they were not there.  We had everything from a fish story to relatives to complaints about working late.  She collected a lot of money.

A sheet was passed around with Kim giving us an opportunity to sign up for an event that supports Mountain View Police Athletic League.

Jim had a sign-up sheet for persons to volunteer to deliver the food for Thursday nights to the RotaCare Free Medical Clinic.  The food is donated by the restaurant; we just have to get it from there to the clinic.  It takes about one hour of time.

Faces of Hope

Each July, people from all over the world come to Guatemala to change the lives of many. For six years Faces of Hope, a project of the Rotary Clubs of Rotary District 5170, has brought talent and resources to the villagers of Guatemala, the local Rotarians and our various partners to provide cleft lip and palate surgery, and to make a difference in basic health care.

Faces of Hope is an extraordinarily dedicated team of medical professionals and Rotary volunteers. Approximately 45 people from all over the world have come together in Antigua to perform cleft lip and palate restorative surgeries. Our team comes from all over the world. We have participants from Germany, The Netherlands, Uruguay and from throughout the U.S., although most came from the greater Bay Area and the clubs in District 5170.We range in age from 17 to 80.Young and old, parent and child, Rotarian and non-Rotarian come together in a quaint, picturesque and welcoming community to change the lives of the children of Guatemala .
