Past President, Roberto Flecha presented Walter Durrua with the 2011 Environmental Award for his outstanding efforts in support of the club's Green projects.

ImageA lifelong resident of Brick, Walt took over his father's gas station in 1958. As an avid outdoorsman, Walt thought it would be a great idea to rent canoes and boats to area vacationers. His passion for paddling and exploring the outdoors fueled his desire for others to share this experience. With the growing popularity of kayaking and paddle sports, Walt’s business began to boom and after 33 years of operation, in the fall of 1991, the Jersey Paddler opened its doors and is now one of the largest canoe & kayak stores in the country.

An active, dedicated Rotarian since 1966, Walt served as Club President in 1968-69. Walt has been married to his wife, Judy, for 51 years, They have a son and daughter. Give him a wave when you see him tending the Club's beautification sites along Brick's byways. Walt is an inspiration to all of us.
