Community Members Gather to Serve Cayucos
Cayucos, May 18, 2008 - The world's first civic service organization, Rotary International, is expanding into Cayucos, CA. The Rotary Club of Cayucos-Seaside received its Charter from Rotary International on March 25, and celebrated its Charter on May 18th, as it joins Rotary's global network of volunteers in more than 32,000 clubs in nearly 170 countries, to enhance the community of Cayucos, and promote international goodwill through community projects, scholarships, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian projects.
During the club's first year, the Rotary Club of Cayucos-Seaside will focus on serving youths and seniors in Cayucos. Initiatives to adopt and maintain the Cayucos Beach by the Pier have been approved by the County of San Luis Obispo. Plans are also underway to support the Cayucos School's literacy, sports and other educational programs. Two other key objectives are to develop a youth center for the community, and collaborate with the local senior center to address seniors' needs in town.
The Rotary Club of Cayucos-Seaside is also dedicated to Rotary's commitment to eradicate polio worldwide. Rotary's largest contribution to global health began in 1985 with PolioPlus, its program to immunize all the world's children against polio. To date, Rotary has committed more than $500 million and countless volunteer hours through the PolioPlus program to the protection of over two billion children in 122 countries.
The club's Charter members represent a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. For more information, please contact Sherry Sim, Club President at (805) 234-4315 or email sherryrotary@sherrysim.com , or visit www.CayucosRotary.org .
