Rotary BBQ 2013

SANTA CLARA, CA (MAY 10, 2013) - Sponsor registration for the BBQ and Car show are now on-line, see right column down below.  This event promises to be one of the biggest events in Santa Clara this year.  Join us and participate as a guest and or as a sponsor.  We will be welcoming BBQ teams from across the United States.  Six local bands will be lending the musical talents to entertain us all.  Join us for a Firework show sure to top last years!  

Santa Clara, CA (December 15, 2012) – The Rotary Club of Santa Clara has partnered with the City of Santa Clara to bring you the 2013 Silicon Valley BBQ Championships. The 2013 Silicon Valley Barbeque Championships will be sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbeque, is the world's largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 15,000 members worldwide. The Rotary Club of Santa Clara with the help of the City of Santa Clara aspire to make this event the largest BBQ competition in Northern California.


 

Rotarians, led by Joe Sweeney, Frank Walsh and Gerry Kosko who are co-chairing the event, are anticipating the Silicon Valley BBQ Championships to be one of the premier community events that the City of Santa Clara has to offer. Proceeds of this event will benefit the children of the community through the various programs of the Rotary Club of Santa Clara has to offer including Steps for Success and Christmas for Kids as well as the Wounded Warriors Project whose vision is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history. The Wounded Warriors Project purpose is to

·       To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.

·       To help injured service members aid and assist each other.

·       To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.

Beginning Friday night June 28th, fifty professional BBQ teams will be arriving from all over the United States to begin competing in four categories - pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken thighs, and brisket. Winners will take home $12,000 in prize money and bragging rights. The location will be at the Santa Clara’s Central Park on Kiely & Homestead. Friday evening will be open to the public from 4 PM till 8 PM. Along with the professional BBQ masters there is a special venue for amateur teams that will be competing for bragging rights as the best in Silicon Valley. Many Silicon Valley restaurants will be present to offer up their specialty dishes and award winning cuisine which will be made available for guests to sample as they work their way around the event. There will be dozens of vendor booths offering food, beer, wine and wares for your enjoyment.

In addition to the BBQ teams smoking up the neighborhood with the tantalizing smell of roast pork, beef and ribs, there will be classic cars on display Saturday June 29th, from 10 to 5 PM. There will be a number of bands to entertain BBQ attendees through all of Saturday. The City of Santa Clara is also hosting a special game and activity area for the kids. They will have rides and slides to keep them entertained while you enjoy the adult festivities of the BBQ cook-offs and Admission is free for the entire family.

Each October, Santa Clara Rotary provides 800 pairs of shoes to underprivileged school age children in a program called "Steps for Success." Each December, Rotary presents Christmas for Kids, providing Christmas fun, gifts, a photo with Santa, hot lunch and transportation to and from school in a luxury bus for 150 underprivileged children in Santa Clara. In addition, the Rotary Club of Santa Clara is involved with programs for seniors and many charitable organizations. Santa Clara Rotary provides scholarships for youth and sponsors high school Interact clubs and several leadership learning experiences for local students.
