Fellow Rotarians,

Our speaker this week is Kim Becker Aguirre, the Director of Aviation at Mineta San Jose International Airport.  Kim will share her experience in managing SJC, which she likens to a mini-city. She will outline plans to revitalize SJC’s passenger base further through an aggressive air service development program, including a newly formed Business Development Division.

It is scholarship season!  Every year our Santa Clara Rotary Foundation gives out college scholarships.  Our scholarships are designed to help those students who would not otherwise be able to go to college start their education at a community college or trade school and then move on to a four-year college or university.  The students are awarded $2000/year for the first two years of community college or trade school. They may then receive an additional $2000/year for two more years at a four-year college or university for a total of $8000 in scholarship money.  The Santa Clara Rotary Foundation scholarships are available to Santa Clara Unified School District seniors who attend Wilcox, Santa Clara, New Valley, or Wilson High Schools.  The student must have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.25 and plan to attend a community college or trade school.  Scholarship applications are available at the school counselors' offices or on the club website at www.santaclararotary.org.  Maria Daane is the head of our scholarship committee and has started accepting applications from students for this year.  If you are interesting in helping with our scholarships or if you know any deserving students who might qualify for our scholarships, please contact Maria.
