Fellow Rotarians,

Our speaker this week is Anna Modlin.  Anna was born with cystic fibrosis and was close to death before finally receiving a life-saving lung transplant 3 years ago.  She is an incredible woman and has gone on to win multiple gold medals in the U.S. and World Transplant Games in swimming.  For those of you who remember our speakers from a couple of years ago, twin sisters Ana and Isabel Stenzel, our speaker Anna was featured in their award-winning documentary “The Power of Two”.  Sadly Ana Stenzel passed away late last year.  However, her legacy and the incredible work of her sister Isabel and friend Anna continues onward.  Anna Modlin’s story was featured last fall in the SJ Mercury news:  http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_24090103/competitive-swimmer-using-grit-and-lung-transplant-winning.  Since Anna is a transplant recipient, her health is sensitive, so please avoid shaking her hand and if you are sick please keep your distance.

This week we have our board meeting on Wednesday, February 19th, 6:00 p.m. at Holders Country Inn, 1424 Saratoga Ave, San Jose.  All members are welcome to attend.  And remember, it you have a red badge, attending a board meeting to see the board in action is a requirement toward getting that prestigious Rotary Club of Santa Clara blue badge.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to me so we can plan accordingly.  Dinner is included.

For those of you who attended our Valentine’s party over the weekend, you know that it was a wonderful evening!  Thanks to Steve and Tina Rainbolt for doing an amazing job organizing the party, to Jim and Cheryl Landes for hosting the event at their lovely Black Ridge Vineyards tasting room, to Jim for sharing his knowledge of the delicious wines and for telling some unforgettable jokes, and to Diamond Mike for donating the gorgeous jewelry prizes.  A great time was had by all!
