Title: Andrew Jackson: Born for a Storm

Speaker: Howard Kittell | Hermitage Foundation

Bio: Howard J. Kittell is the president and CEO of the Andrew Jackson Foundation, which owns and operates Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. Driven by his passion for American history and the preservation of the sites and landscapes that illustrate those stories, he has held this position since November 2008.
Prior to The Hermitage, Kittell was the executive director of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation in Virginia, assistant director of the Providence (R.I.) Preservation Society, executive director of the Preservation Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and then executive director of the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, also in Philadelphia.
Since graduate school, one of Kittell’s career goals had been to work at a presidential museum. Andrew Jackson has proven to be a particularly interesting, consequential and colorful subject. Or, as he often says, “There is never a dull moment with A.J.!”
A Michigan native, Kittell holds a degree in urban planning from Michigan State University; his graduate studies were in architectural history and historic preservation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
