Plano Sunrise Flag Program

History:  PSRC’s fundraiser for 12 years (2001-2013) had been Oktorerfest.  As the returns vs. effort began to decline, the club began to look for another fundraiser. In 2013-14 the club (with Colin Light leading the effort), starting the Holiday Flag program as the replacement to Oktoberfest.  The program grew slowly at first and after the first 2-3 years we saw our subscriber base grow to 200-250.   As word spread and we began to more heavily promote our base over the next 2 years doubled. In 2016-17, we partnered with the Boy Scouts to aid in delivery and pick-up of the flags.

Initially, we observed six holidays Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day, Presidents Day and Labor Day.  Beginning in 2017-18, we began to discuss the holidays we observed and it was decided that all the holidays should be of a patriotic nature.  At that time we began to shift away from Labor Day and observe Patriot’s Day.

We install a 15” PVC sleeve approximately 15” behind the from curb at a focal point in front of the house, and mark its location with a red dot.  This aids in the placement of the flag.  Our flags are 3’ x 5’ mounted on a 10’ pole.

We offer single and multi-years subscriptions as detailed on our subscriptions form.
