Attendance today was 20 of 24, or 83 percent.

Guests in attendance today included: 1) Alex Johnson, visiting Rotarian from Plano West, 2) Interim Police Chief Dan Curtis, 3) SGT Christer Matthews, Plano PD, and 4) Jennifer Chapman, Plano PD

We had multiple speakers today.  We began with a presentation form visiting Rotarian Alex Johnson.  Alex spoke to the club regarding the 4-way Test Speech Contest.  Alex was soliciting club participation in the District-wide effort.  He noted the changes that are being implemented to improve the effort and involve more students.  The club will consider Alex' request at the next full Board Meeting.

Alex was followed by the presentation of the Officer of the Quarter to Jennifer Chapman, with the Plano PD.  Chief Greg Rushin provided a background on Jennifer.  Jennifer has been with the Department for 18 years.  She is a Detective in the Crimes Against Persons Division.  Jennifer is a graduate of Troy State University and was a stand-out track athlete in College.  She grew up in Minot, North Dakota.  Jennifer was recognized for her efforts related to the identification and prosecution of a recent serial killer case in Plano.  Through Jennifer's perseverance, the case was developed and ultimately her efforts led to an arrest and ongoing trial.  Jennifer briefly reviewed her career with the Plano PD and her passion for the work that she does.  We can all agree that Plano is fortunate to employ Officers and Leadership that demonstrate competency and commitment on the level that we saw today.

The presentation was followed by a brief State of the Department form Chief Rushin.  Greg provided a statistical review of Departmental activities for the past year.  Most of the numbers looked great, with the exception coming by way of vehicle accidents.  There has been an increase in accidents that corresponds to the elimination of the Red Light Camera program.  Chief spoke about the mission of the Department and how that drives the day to day activities of the Department.  Chief Rushin also introduced Interim Police Chief Dan Curtis.  Plano will be conducting a national search to fill the vacant Chief position.

The motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self." We all know from experience how much more we can accomplish together than alone. Along those lines, it is imperative that we actively promote our club and invite friends and coworkers to join.

Have a great week, everybody, and don't forget to ask your friends and coworkers to come to have breakfast with us next Friday!
