Attendance today was 18 of 24, or 75 percent.

Guests in attendance today included: 1) Our Speaker, Steve Sims, 2) Meghan Callahan, with Elliott's Hardware.

Our Speaker today was Steve Sims.  Steve is a Senior Planner with the City of Plano.  Steve spoke to the club regarding Plano demographics and the upcoming U.S. Census efforts.  Steve provided an overview of the population growth that Plano has experienced.  During the 1990s, Plano added nearly 92,000 residents.  Plano is the 9th most populous city in Texas and the 69th most populous in the nation as a whole.  Plano is a diverse community, with one of four Plano residents being born in a foreign country.  Steve also stated that by 2040, Plano will be a minority-majority city.  To underscore the city's diversity, Steve noted that 1 of 3 Plano residents speak a language other than English at home.  Steve also spoke briefly regarding the 2020 Census.  He spent a portion of time warning club members about scammers using the census as an opportunity to target citizens.  The census will never ask for information about bank accounts, income, or details regarding your personal finances.  Steve closed his presentation by urging members to participate in the Census.

The motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self." We all know from experience how much more we can accomplish together than alone. Along those lines, it is imperative that we actively promote our club and invite friends and coworkers to join.
