Attendance today was 19 of 24, or 79 percent.

Guests in attendance today included: 1) Judge Andrea Thompson, 2) Judge Tom Nowak, 3) Judge Andrea Bouressa, 4) Judge Lindsey Wynne, and 5) Dr. Tim Chappell

District Judge Andrea Thompson provided the bulk of today's program.  Judge Thompson gave an overview of the structure of the Court system in the State of Texas.  She specifically explained the context and structure of District Courts and their relationship to other levels of judicial review.  In speaking of Collin County specifically, 43% of the caseload involves Family Law.  Civil, Criminal and Juvenile Law occupy 27%, 25% and 4% of caseload respectively.  The caseload for Criminal Law is the fastest growing of the various types of matters coming before the courts.  Annually, the District Courts of Collin County see between 23,000 and 25,000 cases.  This equates to nine cases per day, per Judge.  Judge Thompson's main message regards the need for the community to continually invest in the Courts of Collin County, whether through new technology or new judicial appointments.  The County is growing and we cannot afford to fall behind in our ability to timely adjudicate court cases.

Judge Thompson turned the floor over to her peers, who each provided a quick biography.  Judge Nowak immigrated from Poland in 1985 and was appointed to his position in the past few weeks.  Judge Bouressa is an Aggie, and despite this shortcoming, hails from the great City of Murphy.  Judge Wynne is a Longhorn, worked as a prosecutor and has extensive experience in Family Law matters.  These are all very accomplished individuals and we are fortunate to have them working on our behalf in Collin County.

“Anyone can go through the motions. We can wave our lamps wildly, but it doesn’t matter if they aren’t lit.” - Sharon Lewis
The motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self." We all know from experience how much more we can accomplish together than alone. Along those lines, it is imperative that we actively promote our club and invite friends and coworkers to join.
