Guests today included: 1) George Elwell,  Assistant Governor, 2) Don Mellor, Plano West, 3) Representative Matt Shaheen, 4) Dr. Tim Chappell, Prospective Member, 5) Michael Cain, Lieutenant / Commander, Salvation Army.  Our speaker today was Representative Matt Shaheen, District 66, Texas House of Representatives.  Representative Shaheen provided an overview of the most recent legislative session.  He stated that the two major initiatives of the session were property tax relief and improvements to school funding.  Representative Shaheen spoke to the need to restore state funding of school operations to their historic percentages (50 percent).  He also spoke regarding state initiatives to improve the Texas workforce, citing several initiatives undertaken within the Dallas ISD.  Representative Shaheen closed by stressing the need for enhanced border security and emphasizing the need to curtail human trafficking.  Representative Shaheen stood for several questions, which resulted in a new nickname for your humble Club Secretary.

“Anyone can go through the motions. We can wave our lamps wildly, but it doesn’t matter if they aren’t lit.” - Sharon Lewis
The motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self." We all know from experience how much more we can accomplish together than alone. Along those lines, it is imperative that we actively promote our club and invite friends and coworkers to join.

Have a great week, everybody, and don't forget to ask your friends and coworkers to come to have breakfast with us next Friday!
