Attendance today was 20 of 25, or 80 percent.

Guests today included: 1) Piper McCraw, District Judge of the 469th District Court, 2) Michael Cain, with the Salvation Army, and 3) Dr. Yoram Solomon, our speaker, who is a Professor at SMU.

After a series of painful jokes, we thankfully moved on to hear from our speaker.  As stated, our speaker today was Yoram Solomon. Dr. Solomon spoke to the club on the idea of trust.  A focus of his dissertation was the topic of constructive disagreement.  In order for there to be constructive disagreement, there must be trust.  Dr. Solomon has researched the idea of trust on multiple levels and shared his insights with the club.  He stated that the most valued personal attribute for most individuals is trustworthiness.  He then gave a brief overview of the specific elements of trustworthiness.  Characteristics of trust include: 1) Continuity, 2)Contextual, 3) Personal, 4) Transferability, 5) Reciprocity, and 6) Incorporates a duality. Dr. Solomon closed by urging club members to focus on three aspects of trust: 1) Know how to build trust, 2) Know how to be trusted, and 3) Know whom to trust.  Dr. Solomon has authored several books, with his most recent offerings centered on the concept and practice of trust.

The motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self." We all know from experience how much more we can accomplish together than alone. Along those lines, it is imperative that we actively promote our club and invite friends and coworkers to join.
