on June 20th, 2019

Lynne Gilmore has taken the initiative to ask who in the club would like to participate in this
year’s Dragon Boat races on the St. Mary’s river. The response was favorable.
The race is August 17th.

Stephanie Veit presented recent photos of our Rotary Fountain. The fountain is finished!

Julie Bobay and Lori Stinson gave us a lesson on all the work accomplished this year at
Washington School. Many, many projects were updated including the new music therapy
program (Opera) that recently received local media coverage.

Our program on April 29 was titled “Rotary Friendship Exchange and Polio Immunization Project”

Lorelei VerLee lead off with her impressions of Indian culture she observed in the central part of
India (Raipur). The role of women, gurus (teachers), spiritual leaders and faith being the
foundation of their society especially the family unit. Lorelei especially liked the colorful marketplaces.

Ruth Koontz discussed the work of Rotary in India by way of the medical programs currently in
place. In addition to the heart catherterization labs, currently put in place by the funding of Fort
Wayne’s Praveen Kollipara M.D. Holli Seabury played an integral role in this project. Also, Ruth
spoke of the sickle cell treatment centers in the city of Sambalpur. Ruth dearly appreciated how
well they were received at all their visits.

Randy Roberts and his wife Carol participated in administering the polio vaccination drops to
countless children. He mentioned how all the children loved to have their photos taken as well
as receiving the stickers he and Carol gave as gifts.

Randy was taken by the extremes in gender separation, income and general standards of living.
Indigenous to our area are gray as well as fox squirrels. They play an important part to ecosystem of the rivers.
