Do it for someone you haven't spent a lot of time with in the past- a new good friend.
3. Come to the Social Hour armed with a Spring libation- Sangria! Here is a link to an excellent Sangria recipe: https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a19601715/easy-red-sangria-recipe/ To make this a mocktail, substitute cranberry juice for red wine.
4. Be ready to share the best April Fool's prank you ever played or had played on you!
See you on the 23rd!

Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner
Apr. 29, 2021
Andrew Smith was born and raised in Sonoma County, and found his way to a career in agriculture through a love for the outdoors, nature, and science. Andrew loved helping his father in the garden growing up, and after graduating from high school, he went to work part-time at a local plant nursery. Simultaneously, Andrew attended Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) where he completed his general education coursework and took every agriculture class he could find. It was in his pest management class at the Junior College that he found out about careers in regulation and the role of the Ag Commissioner in promoting and protecting agriculture statewide. While at SRJC, Andrew’s passion and knowledge of agriculture and environmental studies grew, leading him to pursue a degree in Agroecology from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Andrew received his BS in 2005. During his first summer back home from UBC Andrew worked as an Agricultural Program Assistant with the Sonoma County Ag Commissioners office. He loved the work and began to think about this department as a place where he could grow and as a potential career for after college. Andrew has worked in all of his county’s Ag division programs and has had a role in developing and promulgating county cannabis and hemp policy. He has also been a long-standing member and past president of the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals (CASAP) and has reveled in the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships with county personnel, agricultural industry professionals, community leaders, and his Ag and Weights and Measures colleagues throughout the state. Andrew is a dedicated and motivated agricultural professional focused on the promotion, protection, and long term sustainability of Agriculture in Sonoma County and California as a whole. He is committed to serving county stakeholders and his colleagues statewide. In his spare time, he enjoys playing ice hockey, golf, going to the gym, gardening and yard work, as well as spending as much time as possible with his wife Katia, and their 2-year old daughter Sofia. |

CEO and Editor of the North Bay Bohemian
Jun. 10, 2021
How a local publishing group survived the Internet, now a pandemic, and why local journalism still matters. Dan Pulcrano bought the Sonoma County Independent 28 years ago, and seven years later renamed it the North Bay Bohemian. Against his better judgment, he continues to operate as an independent publisher in an industry that skeptics think has a dim future, expanding to more than 15 titles, including two acquisitions and a startup magazine during the pandemic. In last month’s California Journalism Awards, his Weeklys group won 47 awards, including the highly coveted General Excellence Award, given to the state’s best weekly.
Dan is also a pioneer in digital media, starting one of Silicon Valley’s first social networks in 1993.
Dan is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz. He and his wife Juliana welcomed their youngest daughter a year ago, joining their two older sisters, aged 5 and 9.

Life Works
Aug. 19, 2021
LifeWorks of Sonoma County offers an array of mental health services to our community. El Puente "The Bridge" is one of the many programs that LifeWorks offers. It builds a bridge between at-risk, gang-affiliated youth, their families, and the community. This is accomplished by in-home visits that include the entire family. Clinicians provide tools such as goal setting, self-esteem, emotional awareness, and a sense of purpose and community for the youth. They provide tools to the parents to build healthy boundaries and reinforce positive behaviors of their children. LifeWorks Program Coordinator, Marbel Alverez, and Lead Clinician, Adrian Elizondo will go into detail about this extraordinary program and how it has affected the lives of many of our underserved members of the community in a very positive and profound way. Marbell originally from a small Central American country Nicaragua who emigrated 26 years ago to Sonoma County and since that time resides in Santa Rosa, married with 2 children who are currently both college students. Her favorite hobby is hiking, who currently developed a group of women with the purpose of supporting selfcare, leading the women of the community so that they can continue to be mothers, wives but at the same time take care of themselves. Marbell has been working at LIFEWORKS since 2006 She started as an educator in the EFC program then worked in the TBS program As Behavior Coach and currently works in the El PUENTE Program as a program Coordinator who works with parents and sometimes with youth. Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Adrian has been practicing psychotherapy for 7 years. He studied Psychology at Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) and became a Licensed Psychologist in Mexico. Then came to the United States to complete a MA in Counseling Psychology at John F. Kennedy University. He is currently a Licensed MFT and is continuing the path of getting his Professional Clinical Counseling License. Adrian has worked providing counseling/psychotherapy at schools, homes, office, Probation Camp, Juvenile Hall, etc. Adrian’s psychotherapeutic approach has been influenced by his experiences in climbing mountains and for that reason he is interested in holistic mental health approaches and perspectives like Somatic, Transpersonal and Adventure/Wilderness therapies. He has experience working with children, teens and adults using trauma informed approaches, mindfulness, attachment theory, solution focused, systemic and psychodynamic. He is interested on combining psychology and climbing in nature. He believes that an intentionally guided wilderness/outdoor experience is a powerful tool for personal growth and healing trauma. Adrian has experience helping clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, oppositional/defiance, substance abuse, different types of abuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, loss/grief, bullying, anger/aggression and low self-esteem. Adrian has been trained on Triple P Level 4, has a certification on Mindfulness Substance Abuse Treatment for Adolescents, and Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Certification from California Institute of Integral Studies in 2017. |

Founder/CEO, Straus Family Creamery
Aug. 26, 2021
Albert Strauss founded the Strauss Family Creamery in 1994 when he made a choice that had a lasting impact on the entire landscape of dairy farming in the United States. Inspired by ethical and economic considerations, Straus converted his family farm to organic, becoming the first certified organic dairy farm west of the Mississippi River. While his peers thought, he had gone crazy, Straus had practical reasons for the shift — he and other family farmers were selling milk to local co-ops or regional processors that set the price for their milk, an amount that often did not cover the costs of production. Finding this approach short-sighted, Straus spearheaded the movement for inventive farming practices and small-scale artisan dairy production critical to the survival of family farms. Because industrial agriculture was on the rise and milk prices were unrealistically low to sustain family farming, Straus saw an exciting opportunity — Create an organic marketplace; one which reflected the true costs of production and promoted responsible land stewardship, offering a viable, principled, sustainable business model for small dairy farms. |

Today's International Space Station
Sep. 02, 2021
The International Space Station (ISS) is an off-planet center of international technological and scientific collaboration. It has been in continual use for more than 20 years, enabling its national collaborators to undertake two main areas of study, which are Earth observations and a variety of scientific phenomena associated with the absence of the force of gravity. The development of ISS is a story of national interests beginning with the Second World War and the German development of a new form of warfare with the Vengence-2 rocket. This talk will cover the events and personalities which led to powerful national rocket programs in Russia and the United States as part of the Cold War. The Russian program was based on incremental growth of capabilities leading to plans for a large, never-built space station, while the United States opted for the development of the Space Shuttle as a means of transport to a low Earth orbiting space station. In the end, both nations collaborated with four other nations to create today's International Space Station. |

“Lessons Learned from the Mountains of the World”
Sep. 30, 2021
In 2010, Scott Holder set an audacious goal on the table for himself. Scott wanted to climb the highest peak on each continent, known as the seven summits by his 50th birthday. Scott was already 45 at the time. While circumstances outside of his control thwarted the completion of that goal, he was able to climb 6 of the 7 peaks. The lessons Scott learned while traveling the world on this mission have served him well in business as well as in his personal life. Scott is a financial advisor with Edward Jones as well as being a General Partner with responsibility for the Western Division of the firm. In these roles Scott has been able to leverage the lessons he learned to help others achieve success in business and in life. On a personal note, Scott married his childhood sweetheart, Tricia and has two grown daughters. He is an avid pilot and plane owner who has recently been flying and delivering Trained Canine Companion Dogs to their new homes and grateful recipients along the West Coast. He enjoys hiking, skiing, mountain biking and loves everything about the great outdoors. He is a very generous and accomplished individual and outstanding example of Rotary’s moto of “Service Above Self”. Please join Scott while he talks about “Lessons Learned from the Mountains of the World”. |
