Doug McNeil Fund![]() LGMR recently hosted a wonderful meeting honoring the contributions of Doug McNeil and the late Jesse Salem who were founders of Lighting for Literacy. Throughout his life, Doug McNeil has, literally, brought light to thousands of people around the world. Accepting the Rotary Humanitarian Award for Doug were his parents, Jim and Renee. Today, Doug remains a dedicated advocate with an unshakable commitment to creating positive change, while living with a diagnosis of ALS. Doug and his family need our support to offset the financial impact of living with ALS. Please consider contributing to our non-profit fund to help support Doug and his family. We are pleased to provide links to recent Community Newspaper coverage of our event commemorating Lighting for Literacy and its founders. |

Holiday Spirit in Los Gatos, San Jose and Beyond!Did you feel like you missed something this holiday season?Covid-19 definitely threw a damper on our public Holiday traditions in Los Gatos and beyond. Most of our community celebrations were either canceled or curtailed due to our need to stay safe, protect ourselves and our neighbors. Because we have so many traditions in our Communities that we identify with the Holidays, we decided to support other organizations in Town to create a wonderful short documentary that commemorates our "normal" celebrations as a reminder of what was in the past, and what we'll do again as soon as the Pandemic has waned. Even though it's now February, we hope you will enjoy Los Gatos Morning Rotary Presents, "A Very Merry Holiday Special, 2020". This delightful short documentary for the family celebrates local holiday traditions and the organizations that make it all possible, in Los Gatos, San Jose, and beyond. We hope you enjoy, and look forward to the real deal next season! Stay safe!

Rotary Will Mark Historic Progress Toward A Polio-Free World!![]() When Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. We’ve made great progress against the disease since then. Today, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9 percent, and just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan. And we remain committed to the end. With polio nearly eradicated, Rotary and its partners must sustain this progress and continue to reach every child with the polio vaccine. Without full funding and political commitment, this paralyzing disease could return to polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk. Please consider a contribution to The Rotary Foundation - PolioPlus. |

It's TRF Pledge Time!![]() Have you made your annual Pledge to TRF?LGMRC is proud that we have contributed at the 100% level of our membership historically. This has benefitted our local projects tremendously as a portion of your new gift will return to us in 3 years for new grants. We know that there are challenges during Covid-19, but Rotary's work continues. There is no required amount or minimum - we ask you to give whatever you feel comfortable with. Also, why not signup on My Rotary for a recurring monthly amount, conveniently automatically paid with your credit card? Thanks to you, Rotary members have been making a difference at a time when communities need our help more than ever. We know that donors like you are people of action, and your support is changing lives where it’s needed most. Together, we’ve funded thousands of projects around the world. We’ve provided resources for local COVID-19 health and recovery efforts in addition to other initiatives to prevent disease, and of course, our continued fight to end polio. Together, we’ve empowered others by funding sustainable solutions in communities that need clean water, hope for peace, basic education, quality care for mothers and children, or economic opportunity. No matter how large a problem may seem, thanks to you, we can work toward solutions and opportunities for people around the world. Thanks to all who have already stepped up! For the rest of you who have not, please consider giving today. Last Rotary year, we raised more than $408 million for The Rotary Foundation! What we accomplish next will be possible because of your generous support. Thank you for your dedication to Doing Good in the World. |

Doug McNeil Continues to Inspire![]() "It was an emotional moment for the three of us as we took the stage the Herbst Memorial Theater for the Jefferson Awards. Jessica took the podium delivered my acceptance speech for being one of six recipients to receive a silver medal of the 59 recipients. Her beautiful performance connecting with the audience drew a standing ovation, not a dry eye in the place. We will always remember this night as a celebrated family moment and one for the entire Lighting for Literacy team . My name will be submitted at the National pool of recipients. For me, the most rewarding image in my wife and daughter sharing the light. Jessica is standing in front of me beautiful and outlined in the glow of stage Lighting for a proud father beaming. Her voice had become mine!"

Help Support 4th Annual K9 Santa Paws Toy DriveRecently, SCC Sheriff Sgt. Jeremy Jones brought his K9 Partner Raider to our Club for a visit. We were impressed with the special bond between Sgt. Jones and Raider, as well as how Raider lovingly interacted with us as strangers. Sgt Jones told us about how his K9 partner assists him with his law enforcement duties, including sniffing for bombs and apprehending "bad guys". This is a great calling to service that we should all appreciate.

Helping people with disabilities make their own music![]() Music has been an important part of leading an ordinary life for students at the Music School for Children With Disabilities in Honor of Paul Harris in Lublin, Poland. Founded by Rotary members, the school serves 20 students with various disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, and visual impairments. The Rotary Club of Lublin-Centrum-Maria Curie-Sklodowska has provided funding with help from Rotary Foundation Matching Grants and the Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society, which houses the school.
After their son Mateusz was born with underdeveloped eyes, Mariusz and Joanna Kania looked for ways to help him be active. When he showed an aptitude for music, they looked for a teacher and were thrilled to find the Paul Harris music school.
