4 Challenges Modern Parents Face...
Feb. 06, 2019 7:30 a.m.
...That Keep Them Overwhelmed, Anxious and Feeling Guilty About Their Kids. Parenting is not what it used to be. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, employer or manager, it is important to understand the unique pressures that parents are under today. Once parents understand the challenges and learn How to Combat Them, they become the leaders of their family, so their kids will thrive and grow into responsible adults. Parents who have calm and harmonious home lives are better able to find home/work life balance. In this workshop, Elisabeth’s highly-rated, power-packed teaching includes
•How society does not support families and what can be done about it.
•How to parent the kids you have (not the ones you wish you had)
•How to parent from core values so as to be confident and focused as a parent.
Bio:
Author and award winning parent educator Elisabeth Stitt founded Joyful Parenting Coaching in 2014 to give parents the skills they need to be confident and joyous. Over the course of her 25-year teaching career in the Redwood City School District, Elisabeth saw how parents were becoming increasingly isolated and at the same time were coming to parenting with little or no actual hands on experience with kids. Whereas parents used to turn to family and neighbors for models in how to parent, today they have to seek out information and support from professionals. Through in-person workshops, one-on-one coaching and online webinars, Elisabeth helps parents establish harmonious households so they can have the warm, loving relationships they desire with their kids. On her Joyful Parenting tele-summits, Elisabeth has interviewed parenting experts like Dr. Michael Gurian, Dr. Laura Markham and author Julie Lythcott-Haims. Elisabeth’s book, Parenting as a Second Language uses anecdotes from her own experience as a mom, single mom, stepmom and teacher to show parents how to use warmth and empathy to stay connected to their kids even when they make the inevitable mistakes we make as parents.

Presentation by the Sea Scouts
Apr. 10, 2019 7:30 a.m.
Originally organized in the United States in 1912, Sea Scouts was created to serve as an extension of traditional Boy Scout training. Young men would develop personal character—pluck, patriotism, and intelligent discipline—through a sense of duty. By teaching boat management and seamanship, young men would also gain individual knowledge to help them become self-supporting. Sea Scouts performing coast guard duties, lifesaving and salvage at wrecks would also perform invaluable community service. Sea Scouts would combine the best attributes of seamanship with training in character was shared by the Boy Scouts of America. Today, Sea Scouting continues in the same traditions established over 100 years ago by Lord Baden-Powell. Sea Scouting offers a unique opportunity for young men and women in high school to learn all aspects of nautical life while developing invaluable lifelong skills, making new friends, and having a great time. |
