Inspired by the Obama and McCain campaigns' ad spending in August - over $1 million each per day - Tempe South launches new fundraiser.

Due to the unprecedented rise in election-related activity at recent Tempe South meetings, the club is increasing the price of political fines. In fact each week, the fines will rise an additional $5.

At the August 15th meeting two candidates for the state house gave short speaches, including our own Red Badge member, Wes Waddle, and Gary Johnson's guest Frank Schmuck. They paid fines of $10 for these "advertisements" at the meeting.

Most recently, DeeAnne Clowes (visiting Rotarian from Phoenix Arcadia) presented to the club about Corona del Sol air quality issues - and then promptly announced her candidancy for the Tempe Union School Board. President Chris Sar had invited her to speak, and so will pay the now $15 fine.

By October 31st (the last Friday before the election), the fines for political ads will reach $65 each!

"A great idea!" proclaimed President-elect Claus Johnson, who at this rate may well start next year with the largest budget Tempe South has ever seen!

And unlike ads on NBC during the Olympics, which merely contribute to development of mind-numbing programs like "Celebrity Family Feud" or "Lipstick Jungle", the fines at TSR meetings benefit our community and world by supporting the Dictionary Project, Polio Plus, Shelter Box, Project CURE, Rotary Youth Exchange, UMOM New Day Shelters, Tempe Adopt-the-Lake program, Tempe Children First Academy, Fees Middle School Library, Little League baseball, The Centers for Habilitation, Friends of the Orphans, Corona Interact Club, La Davina Providencia in Agua Prieta, Rotary Group Study Exchange, and many more.

So please invite more politicians to our meetings - and let's raise some revenue!
