Happiness:  Research Findings & Everyday Applications

Thanks to our guest, Laura Zitron, who provided us with a summary of research on the positive psychology of happiness.  About 50% of a person's disposition seems to be genetic, 10% is a product of circumstances (friends, family, work, etc.) and the balance of 40% is personal growth that we can work on.  Some suggestions for the 40%:  positive thinking; setting worthy goals; being grateful for what we have; having healthy habits; avoiding comparison to others, etc. It seems that most of us are happy enough, most of the time but it takes sustained effort over time to maintain a state of happiness.
