At our Installation Luncheon on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, Rockaway Rotary recognized the efforts of 2017-18 President Ken Nickel and the past year’s Board of Directors. Assistant Governor Roland Basinski installed incoming President, Rodney Seifert and the Board of Directors for 2018-19. Thank you to outgoing President Ken Nickel, his fellow officers and board members who have served our club so admirably during this past year. Congratulations and best wishes to incoming President Rodney Seifert and the new officers and board members for the 2018-2019 year.

At the July 11th Installation Luncheon of the Rockaway Rotary Club, three members of the Rockaway Rotary Club were recognized for their ongoing financial support of The Rotary Foundation. Donna Theese was recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow Award and PP Denise & PP Ken Nickel were both individually presented with their PHF +1 pins. Thank you Donna, Denise, and Ken for your commitment to the work of The Rotary Foundation.
We have been notified by the RI Regional Grant Officer that the Global Grant Scholarship for Janine Furtado has been approved. "Congratulations! Your global grant application for funding to provide a scholarship to Ms. Janine Furtado to pursue an Interdisciplinary Masters in Development Studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, submitted by the Host Sponsor Rotary Club of Genève International in Genève, Switzerland in District 1990 and the International Sponsor District 7475 in the United States, has been approved by The Rotary Foundation. The award is in the amount of US$ 30,000.00." Janine was sponsored by our Rockaway Rotary Club and District 7475 for this international scholarship. PP Ken will be overseeing this scholarship on behalf of our club and coordinating with the host club, the Rotary Club of Genève International in Genève, Switzerland in District 1990.
On Tuesday, August 7th, the Rockaway Rotary Club will participate in the annual “National Night Out” in Rockaway Borough. This nationwide crime and drug prevention event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Rockaway Borough Police Department. Contact PP Sheila Seifert or President Rod Seifert to volunteer for this event.
On Wednesday, August 8th, Rockaway Rotary will participate in Service Club Day at Camp Merry Heart. The clubs of our district have been supporting Camp Merry Heart since 1952, providing the upkeep of buildings, donating camper scholarships and much needed supplies. Rotary is an important component of the camp’s success. The day will begin with a carnival for the campers and Rotary members from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Rockaway Assembly of God Church are allowing us to again utilize their popcorn machine for the carnival. Contact PP George Berry or President Rod Seifert to assist with our efforts on this important day. Camp Merry Heart is located at 21 O’Brien Road in Hackettstown, NJ.
On Saturday, August 18th, Rockaway Rotary will again participate at the distribution of school supplies during the Rockaway “Back-To-School” Program at the United Methodist Church. Due to our contributions and help, many students in our communities will be able to start the school year with a new backpack and the essential supplies to make their school year a success. As always, we will be manning the grills cooking the burgers and hot dogs during the distribution. Contact Chairperson PP Sheila Seifert to volunteer to work a shift at this event.
