Due to the time and efforts of the Rockaway Rotary Club and the generosity of Rockaway area residents, many needy families will be able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner this year. This past Saturday, in support of the Rockaway Food Closet, members of the Rockaway Rotary Club and friends collected frozen turkeys, bags of groceries, and cash donations to help Rockaway families who are struggling to pay their bills and are unable to stretch their budgets far enough to purchase the traditional Thanksgiving items. We also assisted in delivering food items collected by the National Honor Society at Thomas Jefferson School and items contributed by the patients at Adjust Chiropractic Health in Rockaway Township. The ideal of ‘Service” is thriving in Rockaway Rotary and our Rockaway communities. We thank all of the community members who contributed to our efforts to assist those less fortunate.
At our November 14, 2018 club meeting, the Rockaway Rotary Club honored Wade Malaniak from Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Rockaway Borough and Amber Kurland from Copeland Middle School in Rockaway Township as part of our club's Student Honors Program. Youth Service Chairperson Jake Vogelezang outlined Rotary's focus in the area of education and introduced Thomas Jefferson Principal David Waxman and Copeland Principal Alfonso Gonnella who spoke about the students' outstanding qualifications for this award.
Rockaway Rotary continues in our ongoing endeavor to fight hunger in our communities. At our November 14th lunch meeting, President Rod Seifert presented a donation from our club's various fundraising efforts to Linda Kirby for the Rockaway Food Closet. Rockaway Rotarian Dr. Jason Abaza also presented a $500+ monetary donation to the Food Closet from contributions collected from patients at Adjust Chiropractic Health in Rockaway Township.
