SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEWS TO BE HELD THIS WEEK!
 
Each year, the Rotary Club of the Rockaways offers four scholarships to qualified high school seniors from Rockaway Borough or Rockaway Township.  Click "Read more..." below for the requirements and qualifications for each scholarship and download the scholarship application forms.
  • Frederick and Ruth James Memorial Scholarship
  • Alfred G. Scott Memorial Scholarship
  • John H. Beeman “Service Above Self” Scholarship

FREDERICK and RUTH JAMES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
 
Eligibility for the Scholarship is limited to qualifying high school seniors who are residents of Rockaway Borough or the Township of Rockaway.

Applications and all supporting letters, data, transcripts and tax returns must be received on or before April 27, 2018.  Interviews for the finalists will be scheduled during the week of May 7, 2018.  The Scholarship Committee will notify applicants as of time and location of the interview.

CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP: Qualified students for scholarship must exemplify the Rotary Principle of “Service Above Self”, defined as “unselfish leadership and performance in academic, athletic, religious and community activities and all other relevant school extracurricular activities.” Candidates must also establish financial need and be academically qualified (must have attained “Honor Roll” or reached the top 20% of their graduating class).

A Scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded.
 
FREDERICK and RUTH JAMES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

ALFRED G. SCOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
 
Eligibility for the Scholarship is limited to qualifying high school seniors who are residents of Rockaway Borough or the Township of Rockaway.
 
Applications and all supporting letters, data, transcripts and tax returns must be received on or before April 27, 2018.  Interviews for the finalists will be scheduled during the week of May 7, 2018.  The Scholarship Committee will notify applicants as of time and location of the interview.

CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP: Qualified students for the scholarship must exemplify the Rotary principle of “Service Above Self,” being defined as “unselfish leadership and performance in academic, athletic, religious and community activities and all other relevant school extracurricular activities.”  In addition, the applicant must study one of the following college majors or a closely allied field: Forestry, Oceanography, Marine Biology or Science, Environmental Sciences, Earth Science, Ecology, Geology, Botany, Zoology, Wildlife Management and Conservation, or Natural Sciences.

One Scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded.

JOHN H. BEEMAN “SERVICE ABOVE SELF” SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
 

Eligibility for the Scholarship is limited to qualifying high school seniors who are residents of Rockaway Borough or the Township of Rockaway.

Applications and all supporting letters, data, transcripts and tax returns must be received on or before April 27, 2018.  Interviews for the finalists will be scheduled during the week of May 7, 2018.  The Scholarship Committee will notify applicants as of time and location of the interview.


CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP: Qualified students for scholarship must exemplify the Rotary Principle of “Service Above Self,” by demonstrating exemplary humanitarian service in their school, religious, and/or community activities with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others.  Candidates must also establish financial need and be academically qualified (must have attained “Honor Roll” or reached the top 20% of their graduating class).
 
A Scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded.

JOHN H. BEEMAN "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

ROCKAWAY ROTARY VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
 

The Rockaway Rotary Club will be awarding on “vocational” scholarship in the amount of $1000.00.  The successful applicant will have an occupational/technical program in which he/she demonstrated exemplary competency and diligence, and will be continuing his/her education/training at a post secondary institution.  The scholarship may be used for tuition, tool or books.  The applicants must be residents of Rockaway Borough or Rockaway Township.

 

Student applications, limited to seniors must include the following:

  

  • Completed application.
  • Transcripts from junior year and also 1st, 2nd and 3rd marking period grades for senior year.
  • Letters of recommendation from guidance counselor and vocational teacher.
  • Documentation of financial need.  Why do you need the money? Use separate sheet to explain.
