Special thanks to the Madison Rotarians who were able to participate in the Habitat Build in Morristown. Our group focused mostly on sheet rock work. It was also great to meet the future homeowners who were also onsite putting in their sweat equity which is a habitat requirement. The Club all secured the help of 15 international students from Drew University to participate. In total almost 30 volunteers were part of this project.
On September 24th the Madison Club participated in its annual food drive in conjunction with the Chatham Rotary to collect food for our local food banks. Thanks to the efforts of Beat Barblan and his team of volunteers a record amount of food was collected (1752 pounds) along with cash contributions of $250. This is a particularly difficult time of the year for food pantries as there is a seasonal dip in food collections. Our efforts helped fill the void.
Many Rotarians consider the Secretariat simply another name for the RI World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Actually, it is much more. While it does include the World Headquarters, the Secretariat encompasses nearly 800 individuals working to make Rotary International run smoothly and effectively. The term describes the entire operations of the general secretary and his staff. The Secretariat also includes eight Rotary Service Centers around the world, all of the staff serving in those centers, as well as all staff assigned to The Rotary Foundation. Its sole purpose is to serve the clubs, districts and administrative officers of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation. RI World Headquarters, in a building called One Rotary Center in Evanston, is the headquarters of the Secretariat. One Rotary Centre, as it is called, enhances the efficient operations of Rotary International.
Bottle Hill day was attended by over 10,000 people. 26 Madison Rotarians and 22 Madison High School Interactors turned out to man Rotary's food station.
