The Rotary Club of Madison has 2 meetings: Thursday morning 7:30 am, Madison Area YMCA, 111 Kings Road, Madison, NJ and Thursday afternoon 12:15 pm, Madison Hotel, One Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ. Members and guests may attend either meeting.
It is with a heavy heart that Rotary District 7470 announces the passing of Rotary International President-elect Sam Owori. Owori passed away on July 13, 2017 after complications from surgery. Owori was a member of the Rotary Club of Kampala, Uganda. He joined Rotary in 1978, and served as District Governor in Uganda, working tirelessly to engage women within Rotary, as well as youth participants, alumni, and community members.
Thank you Stacy Russo, Jim Allison, Jeff Kraft, Hal Moeller, Frank Cesaro, Barry Kroll, Mike Rabasca, and Bob Conley for a great day of service at Camp Merry Heart last Wednesday. Our group made an impact in serving the young people with disabilities who are participants at Camp Merry Heart.
The newly formed program/speakers committee wants to hear from you about your preferences for interesting topics and speakers for our club meetings. Watch your email for a survey that will be sent later this week. Please respond as it is important for the committee to get your feedback. The goal of the committee is to have great programs of interest to all members.
Pictured left to right Ray Freaney, Ellsworth Havens and Bill Van Ryzin. Elsworth Havens was presented a PHF +2 recognition for his leadership in End Hunger 3.6 which packaged 123,000 meals for distribution to various food programs serving the needy in New Jersey.
The new meeting location for the Madison Rotary's evening meeting will be The Waverly Restaurant located at 14 Waverly Place in Madison. Madison Rotary will continue to have three meetings: 7:30 am at the YMCA, 12 noon at Rod's Restaurant and 6:30 pm at the Waverly. Members and guests can choose to attend any meeting.
The following Rotarians have completed the Red Badge Program which is a program designed to help newer Rotarians to get to know about Rotary. Congratulations to Jeff Andrews, Beat Barblan and Pat Rowe. New members have red name badges to identify them as new members. Members receive their blur badges after one year or after completing the Red Badge Program.
“Club Service” involves focusing on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs. Learn about effective club service in Membership and Training.
“Vocational Service” involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.
“Community Service” is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.
“International Service” encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.
“Youth Committee” is the Avenue that recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.
The Rotary Club of Madison has an enthusiastic and engaged network of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to serve humanity in our local and global communities. We have 88 members and are inviting like-minded individuals to join our successful and vibrant club. President Michel Belt encourages you to come learn about Rotary by attending any one of our three weekly meetings as our guest. You have your choice of three weekly meetings: Thursdays, 7:47 am breakfast at the YMCA, 12:15 pm lunch at the Madison Hotel or 6 pm the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at Charlie Brown's in Chatham. Margit Rahill presented to Jeannie Tsukamoto the District Annual Membership trophy to the club with the largest number of new member secured in the 2016 - 2017 Rotary year. Madison gained 21 new members more than double of any club in the district. This last time Madison won this trophy was in 2002. The number one goal for 2017 - 2018 is membership development and we will endeavor to keep the trophy for a second year. Thanks to everyone for your part in membership development.
