Sponsored by the Friends of the Madison Public Library in cooperation with the Madison Area YMCA and the Madison Rotary Club, the event will take place on Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine and will offer families a day packed with low-cost fun and entertainment.  Emergency vehicles will stretch down along Keep Street across from the Madison Public Library and a variety of large trucks will fill the Madison Area YMCA parking lot.

Youngsters will not only be able to feast their eyes on over 25 trucks of all shapes, sizes, and functions, but they will be allowed to climb on and explore most of them to their hearts content. In addition to the exciting lineup of vehicles on display, including diggers, dump trucks, back hoe and rescue trucks, Touch a Truck will keep families happily entertained with many other activities, such as free 20-minute magic shows by Simon Mandal at 11 am, 11:30 am, 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm, free face painting and kids’ tattoos, free balloon animals and pizza for sale.

Both adults and children will enjoy a model train exhibit featuring working Lionel “O gauge” trains shown in an authentic 1928 baggage rail car, along with a 1928 safety training rail car and other antique railroad memorabilia.  In 2016, 1300 people attended.  A Rotarian who was volunteering for the day commented: “There are hundreds of children here and you don’t hear a single one crying.”  Everyone has a good time at Touch a Truck!

Touch a Truck 2018 promises to deliver fantastic fun to all who attend.  All proceeds of the event will benefit the Madison Public Library particularly programs for children, teens and adults and expand the book and media collections that are beyond the reach of the library's budget.   Admission for toddlers to age 12 will be $8 for advance purchases (postmarked by July 21) and $10 for same-day purchases. Tickets for teens and adults are $5. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Questions can be addressed at
