Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.”  (Rotary International’s new mission statement)

As we celebrate our 71st year as a club, we look to continue to be people of action creating lasting change, as we make a difference in people’s lives both locally and internationally.   Locally, we work to provide disaster relief in many communities; we support local Veterans; we support children, through Mentor Tutor Connection, helping underserved youth in academics and life, and through scholarships to high school students, many of whom are the first in their families to go to college.  Internationally, we focus our efforts on maternal and child health, including the prevention of AIDS in children in Africa.  We rebuild schools in Haiti, improve nutrition and income in Peru, and teach about safe, sustainable solar cooking to people in Nepal.  Through our World Community Service committee (WCS), our Child Health and Aids Prevention organization (CHAP), and the leverage provided by The Rotary Foundation, we are able to serve those in need globally.  And through our major fundraisers like Fine Art in the Park, our Cioppino Feed, and our booth at The Los Altos Art and Wine Festival, we raise funds and build community so that we can support local projects as well as Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign.   That is what it means to be a Rotarian… improving the world, our local communities, and ourselves.

Rotary International President, Mark Maloney’s theme for 2019-20 is Rotary Connects the World.  He calls on Rotarians to strengthen the many ways that Rotary Connects the World, building the connections that allow talented, thoughtful, and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through Rotary service.

My theme for our club for 2019-2020 is Connecting Rotary with Family.  Our Rotary family connects us through club activities, social events and volunteer projects offering networking opportunities that build personal and professional connections.  We can connect our immediate and extended families and our work family, with our Rotary family in all these activities.  We’ll be offering opportunities to involve your extended families in our social events, fundraising activities, and our volunteer projects this year.

I am honored and privileged to be your president this year and I’m looking forward to a productive, FUN year providing opportunities for all of us to change the world, and ourselves.
