ROTARACT , INTERACT AND CAMP RYLA

Interact Clubs:

Interact is a service club for young people ages 14-18. Sponsored by local Rotary clubs, Interact clubs give young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. Interactors and Rotarians are partners in service. Rotarians mentor promising youth in their communities. Interactors bring new energy to a Rotary club, inspire fresh ideas for service, increase support of projects, and help develop future Rotarians.

Each year, Interact clubs complete at least
two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of:

  • Developing leadership skills and personal integrity

  • Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others

  • Understanding the value of individual responsibility and

    hard work

  • Advancing international understanding and goodwill

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, today there are more than 9,000 clubs in over 110 countries with an estimated membership of 200,000 youth worldwide.

Los Altos Rotary sponsors Interact Clubs at Alta Vista, Los Altos, and Mountain View High Schools to assure quality experiences for youth consistent with Rotary principles.

Rotaract Clubs:

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community- based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true “partners in service” and key members of the Rotary family.

Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and Rotaract clubs have access to many of the resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. As another of Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, today there are over 7,500 Rotaract clubs in over 150 countries with an estimated membership of 170,000 young men and women worldwide.

Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award): Our club screens and selects 2 or more local youths to attend camp RYLA which takes place during their summer break.

Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program worldwide. Young people, ages 16-17, are chosen for their leadership potential. Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate the event’s curriculum. This Camp RYLA is sponsored by Rotary District 5170.

High school students from around the Bay Area are selected to attend RYLA for leadership demonstrated at school or in the community. Many, but not all, of our students are a part of their school Interact Clubs. These students receive scholarships to a week long leadership camp where they learn skills about how to become better leaders, build better friendships, and how to actively apply what they have learned at camp to their lives, schools, and communities.

RYLA aims to:

  • Demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth;
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders;
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth; and
  • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.

RYLA was officially adopted by Rotary International in 1971, and is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service. RYLA programs often lead to the formation or strengthening of Rotaract and Interact clubs. RYLA participants often go on to become Youth Exchange students or Ambassadorial Scholars.
