Welcome
A huge welcome from me to you!
I am thrilled to be the Rotary Club of Edmonton Strathcona’s President for 2024/2025, and I welcome everyone, Rotarian and non-Rotarian, to this page and our club! I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity I have been given to serve and give back to the community, it is such a great honour.
In early 2024, our club celebrated 50 years of outstanding contributions and commitment to our different communities, both near and far, and there is so much to be proud of. At the same time, our membership has been declining, something which directly impacts our proven ability to transform our passion for helping others into clear and effective action. While our focus and goals haven’t changed, we are starting to lose steam because of lower member participation, and we must find ways to reverse this.
I am asking you, fellow Rotarians and friends, for your support. We now have more technology and resources to help more people, but we won’t get there if we don’t have enough members. Your commitment to Rotary is no less important now than it was 50 years ago. I want to re-ignite your passion for saving lives, eradicating polio, educating women and children around the world, defending the oppressed, and continuing to be the peacekeepers and real superheroes of the world! Rotarians bring hope to the world through our work, we inspire people, let’s get out there and keep going!
I am a true example of someone who was helped by the strength of Rotary, a relationship that began even before I became a member. Through moments of struggle in earlier years, I received help from WIN House, the Food Bank and other charitable groups supported and held aloft by Rotary. My desire to give back to others comes from this, and my example has been People & Rotarians! I am here to light a fire under current members, to help us find new people and to encourage an invigorated energy for the club that will allow us to keep going, get bigger and stronger, and continue giving to the world in the ways that help.
So please, join me in making this year of Rotary the start of something new, where we use our past accomplishments to remind us of what is possible, and our newly rekindled desire to go further than before, and really make the next 50 years something to remember.
Thank you!
