DESCRIPTION:For the past several years Rotarian Jim Greenough (RC of Edmont
on) and I (Jeff Polovik\, RC of Edmonton Sunrise) have been working to h
elp Rotary re-engage with Fort Edmonton Park. We have personally spoken to
a number of the Rotary Clubs in the Edmonton area and shared the vision o
f a project that we can support which would provide a lasting legacy of th
e role that Rotarians played in the formation and building of the park.
Thanks to many of the Clubs and Rotarians who helped us by providing tho
usands of dollars to get this initiative moving. We are co-hosting a FUNd
raising event at Fort Edmonton Park on the 15th of June\, 2017.  We hav
e obtained a full complement of sponsors who share the vision of Fort Edmo
nton and we have sold over 30 tables to event already.  We believe this
will be a significant fundraiser and are excited to host this event.  Ou
r objective is to create something quite different than the “usual” au
ction.  We obviously want to raise funds but also entertain and share wi
th you the  exciting plans for the new expansion happening over the next
3 to 4 years.  There will be no silent auction and only a few interesti
ng live auction items.  We have arranged for opening and closing enterta
inment that will leave you wanting more. One of the major hurdles in movin
g this project forward over the last many years has been the lack of gover
nment funding.  We are pleased to advise that all three levels of govern
ment have committed over 150 million dollars to the expansion of Fort Edmo
nton Park.  The final hurdle is to secure the last 10 million dollars wh
ich is required to complete the entire expansion. At the May 25 board meet
ing\, the board approved a contribution to cover one table at the event de
sribed below. The contribution is in support of adding the Albion and and
Windsor blocks to reaffirm Rotary's history and presence in Fort Edmonton.
President Dimitri will announce how members can directly participate in t
 he exciting event.
