Would you like to travel to Guatemala?

Our club has collaborated with 2 other District 5950 clubs, Minneapolis City of Lakes and Buffalo, to apply for a grant to send school supplies, specifically a math curriculum, to needy schools in the vicinity of Antigua, Guatemala, working with the Saint Paul based NGO, Common Hope. A group of Rotarians from the 3 clubs will travel to Guatemala on January 24 for a week at Common Hope and in Antigua, and will help distribute the learning materials to the local schools. The expenses would include your air travel ~$650-700 currently and a $100 per diem, which would cover most of your expenses while there. There would be room for up to 4 more Rotarians (could be spouses) from our club; please see Gary Strandemo or call Gary Strandemo, 651-492-3676, if interested or if questions.

An Evening of Erudition in the Magna Carta Tradition

From Mike Mullins
Dear Rotarians/Guests/Friends --
Any/ All are still welcome!

Just for fun we'll reverse the proposition and thus it shall be:

"The much-ballyhooed Magna Carta written and promulgated in 1215 at Runnymede (England) was nothing more than the forced capitulation by King John to the demands made of him by his barons who were sick and tired of the taxation (fees, hounours, scutage) which had reached, in their opinion, unbearable and oppressive levels.  As to being a template for the future US Constitution and the Bill of Rights, perhaps that's true, but historical context would suggest the Magna Carta cared little or none at all for the common ordinary person nor for the concept of citizenship within a democratic republich."
